Ludicrous Argentina has just started a very dangerous game for itself as Kirchner decides to "put an embargo" on British products and goods...

Buenos Aires is asking for something that is not theirs, has never been and will never be theirs.

Falkland Islands are a sovereign British territory and no one can change it especially by force.

There are British citizens living in there and Argentina is keeping them under a strong and costant psychological pressure as those people still remember treacherous and criminal Argentinian invasion in 1982 that spread panic in their land and left many dead.

But it seems Buenos Aires is not satisfied with one hard military defeat/fiasco and it's searching for another one.

Plus, recently Argentinians have started to ban UK flagged ships from docking in their ports. Especially tourist ships with innocent peaple abroad willing to visit Argentina as simple tourists.
In my professional opinion it's a very inhumane of them and they should be ashamed of it.

In conclusion I'd like to make it clear that UK is an integral part of our Western European alliance and family, and therefore, European states will always be solidal for London and its rightful properties.
Any new stupid military adventure or aggression of Argentina against Falklands will be met not only by British but it will certainly risk to "touch" a fifth article of NATO alliance that triggers automatically an unified response in case one of its member states territory is attacked...

Therefore I do not understand why Argentina is trying to cause such a disaster...
As I see it, their government is trying to mask country's internal problems, poor living conditions and widespread corruption with an emotional issue in order to divert attention.

USA and lack of social justice - analysis ...

When it comes analyzing western democracies, we have basically two different models that work rather differently one from another.
Actually as we all know well, democracy is not only fair elections, elected representatives and corruption free rule of law. It's about social justice as well and probably it's an extremely important part of it.

As an Italian, I value the system we have here in Western Europe and I do believe it's a most successful model a democratic society can offer to it's citizens.
Italian, French and German models of social justice (UK has somewhat different structure) are highly appreciated among European citizens.
A welfare system of major western European democracies offer to it's citizens a free healthcare, free mandatory education, defend their residents from an excessive economic speculations etc...

I believe US citizens deserve the right to have at least some of these aforementioned benefits available to them as well.
I understand there are very powerful lobbies in Washington pushing hard in order to prevent all this from happening, but US administration must consider the well being of all its citizens an not only those super rich groups trying to keep their businesses running.

I do know a hard working American society and I know that big part of this society is struggling to cope with every day life.
Welfare benefits would be extremely important for them and would raise living standards inside the country considerably.

The United States is an extremely wealthy nation that can easily afford and reach welfare standards we have here in Italy, France or Germany. The "only" thing they need, is to have a strong support from courageous politicians pushing for these changes.
For now, every single administration US have ever had (Obama included), gave special treatments and certain advantages to the interests of big corporations. It's time someone starts considering interests of hardworking individuals and help them accordingly.

Basic problems are:

1) Lack of social justice,
2) uneven distribution of wealth,
3) no right to a free healthcare for everyone holding a US citizenship,
4) right to affordable, mandatory and universal education,
5) no adequate protection for employees...
and many other problems are keeping the US far from being considered as a totally accomplished democracy working for the well being of its citizens.

Then there is a Wall Street issue...

I believe market economy and capitalism is a fairest systems there is and I'm its big supporter, but this particular system works perfectly only if it's well regulated.
Unfortunately, market economy system in the US is a total mess.
Wall Street and major US credit rating agencies had tainted and violated (for many years) all those basic rules and regulations that keep markets functioning correctly and fairly. Inflated and rigged indexes, unfair or favour-based ratings and local politicians playing alone like their accomplices had produced only a huge destruction of the system and caused a major economic crisis that started/originated in America and spread in all over the world infecting European and Asian markers as well...
American politics were not able to give it a decent response and correct Wall Street problems once and for all. Even though there was a big request from an American general public to reform the system, local politicians did not do anything about it.
There still are same speculators inside Wall Street that continue manipulating free market for their personal agenda.

Latest - Afghanistan in violence and chaos!

Afghanistan's gone ballistic these last 5 days. There are killings everywhere. Last incident targeted NATO personnel inside defence ministry.
Basically, Afghan civilians and big part of their government officials started to target NATO personnel on a basis of a personal revenge that followed an unfortunate incident of burning Korans at American military base.

There are clear execution type killings of Westerners carried out by Afghans in every part of the country and the violence is still escalating.

NATO has just recalled every single western representative they had at various Afghanistan ministries in Kabul and US has definitely closed It's embassy and consulate as well.

The situation is very serious that might well become catastrophic.
After a stupid incident related to burnings of holly Koran, the situation has deteriorated rapidly.
Isaf mission has lost control of the situation and an antire country, populated by religious fanatics, had risen agains our presence there.
Local mullahs has started to preach violence ones again, calling on their followers to murder every single Westerner they encounter...

Fact is that Hamid Karzai has no real power to contain the situation and control engry mobs roaming the cities...
Therefore, I see no immediate exit from this insanely serious mess.

Let's hope this incident does not become similar to a "big escape from Saigon", when American military were forced for a fast runaway from Vietnam.
Otherwise, all these 11 years of Western sacrifices to help and stabilize Afghanistan will be lost forever...

Arrogant India keeps Italian soldiers still under arrest...

An Arrogant and hostile Indian government continues keeping our (Italian) soldiers under an illegally orchestrated arrest!

Before I continue, Id like to highlight that Indian shores are full of pirates attacking and hijacking ships every week. Those who do not know, it's not only Somalia but Indian region as well, that is full of pirate activities and international organizations know this very well...

Incident regarding a shooting that happened 17/02/2012, in international waters between an Italian ship and a small pirate boat that was trying to attack and hijack it, has deteriorated relations between Rome and New Delhi.

According to Indian regime, the "attacked" boat was a fishing boat, not a pirate vessel and two of its "fishermen" were killed during the shooting.
Therefore, Italian cargo ship that was transporting goods and having Italian Navy officers as an escorts serving on it, was forced to dock at Indian port of Kochi and two Navy officers were arrested by local police in violation of every single international regulation and law...

First of all, after analysing last information in my hands, it seems that Italian special forces officers on board of an Italian cargo ship had really prevented a pirate assault on their ship and the Indian fishing boat was actually shot by some other ship passing by near Indian waters.
Once fishermen went back to alert Indian police they simply pointed out a wrong ship as their assailant.

Besides the story and speculations around it, India had no right any way, to arrest Italian Navy officers as the alleged incident took place in international waters 60 miles from Indian waters and therefore the case is under Italian jurisdiction only. International laws are extremely clear about it...

And secondly, arresting military personnel of Italy - one of NATO's founding members, is an extremely foolish and aggressive step made by India and New Delhi will certainly be held accountable for it's act of aggression against our country.

Even though India admitted incident happened in international waters, its still holding Italian military under illegal custody and is trying the patience of Rome and Bruxelles.

India is digging it's hole alone and is not even realizing it...
For now my only thought goes our military stranded in hostile Indian environment.
With Indian government we will deal later, I hope...

Iranian threats and preventive strike...

Even though I used to be somewhat sceptical on an option of attacking Iran, today I have definitely changed my mind.

The arrogance of an Iranian criminal regime and its religious leader Khamenei has definitely cross a red line they should not have crossed.

An insane promise of Iranian state to carry out A preventive strike against any western state that threatens its national interests, is an early declaration of war against everyone that must be met with an iron feast from us, Western Europeans as well as Americans and Israelis.

I know how unsafe should Israelis feel after this bold statement coming from Tehran...
It's an extremely unpleasant feeling that Iran forcing Israelis to pass through... The continuous threat coming from a very unpredictable enemy is very difficult to ignore.
Plus a special hatred Iran has towards Israel is bringing even more risk and uncertainty.

As i said before, as a political analyst, I was against Iran strike but after today's statement, a good and surgical preventive strike might become necessary...

And last but not least, Iran'a such an arrogant behavior is partly motivated by criminal regimes of Russia and China that tend to particularly encourage Tehran in it's insane agenda.
We have to deal with this political reality as well and develop necessary criterias to bend and brake this axis of evel once and for all!

Greece - guilty of falsifying data, rescued once more...

As we all know and remember, Greece joined the Euro zone area in 2001 basically by fabricating and falsifying their economic parameters in order to appear suitable for membership.

Bruxelles and all European bureaucrats do know that and yet Athens continued to be a member of a common European currency. It's a very bizarre and unjustified decision that those who strive for fair play game will never understand and never forget...

Everything that happened to Greece during this economic crisis was a pre-announced tragedy.
Once Europe understood Greece's economic picture was falsified, the real picture started coming up to the surface.
Real economic indexes of Greece were not capable respecting Euro zone's minimum standard requirements.

Basically, we Europeans, have decided once again to "help" the transgressive Greece once more by giving it billions and billions of Euros.

In my personal and professional opinion It's absolutely unacceptable and first of all it's extremely wrong and not fear!

Message we sent says it's ok to falsify and fabricate data and we will close an eye on it once we catch you doing that...
It's terribly wrong.

It's not even a first time Greece's memberships for various international institutions caused serious questions.

Even in 1981 when Athens was allowed to join the European Union, Greece did not appear to be ready for that. By that time Greece was not in compliance with democracy requirements and those who are familiar with European Union and its history know very well what I mean...
Country with many years of dictatorship was not ready to join the EU in '81 but somehow exceptions had been made to satisfy Greek ambitions for European membership.

Any way, I believe it's time Greece accepts the consequences of their own risky game and starts assuming responsibilities for the outcome.
Plus, I strongly believe big number of Greek citizens might even not being aware of what their governments had been doing during all these years, and therefore, the government needs to tell the truth to general public.

Il paese che ha costruito la sua adesione e permanenza nell'area Euro esclusivamente sulle menzogne e carte false, ha appena ottenuto l'ennesimo aiuto dalla zona Euro divisa ed indebolita.

La Grecia colpevole e recidiva...

Ritengo che debba finire questa ipocrisia ed isteria di massa a favore di Atene e si deve accettare il fatto che la Grecia ha causato tutto da solo. Inoltre ha deliberatamente mentito ai suoi partner...

Dal momento in cui Bruxelles ha scoperto che le carte ufficiali greche per poter entrare nell'area Euro erano tutte falsificate, avrebbe dovuto cacciarla subito fuori!
Non facendo così, ha danneggiato seriamente la credibilità delle istituzioni comunitarie ed ha aumentato la sfiducia dei mercati nei confronti della nostra moneta...

Anche nel lontano 1981 la posizione greca per l'adesione all'Unione Europea era alquanto precaria e per niente compatibile con i standard dell'Unione. La qualità della sua democrazia era estremamente bassa se non inesistente e non si é mai capito il motivo per cui Roma, Parigi e Bonn hanno accettato la deroga alle regole.

Non possiamo difendere lo stato che ha manipolato i propri dati per far sí ché nessuno scoprisse la verità sulla sua reale situazione di disaggio.
Avere la memoria corta non serve a nulla.

Sarebbe l'equvalente della capitolazione politica. Prendiamo l'esempio dai nostri alleati americani.
Siamo una potenza militare di spessore ragguardevole e possiamo farcela.

Se il caso verrà catalogato come uno spiacevole incidente, ci saranno le condoglianze in quanto gli incidenti simili succedono spesso. Ma se verrà fuori che i così detti pescatori erano i veri pirati travestiti, sarà l'India a scusarsi.
Ogni altro scenario deve essere considerato come l'atto di aggressione gratuito nei confronti del nostro paese.

Incidente diplomatico tra Italia e India... Sale la tensione.

Adesso anche l'India alza la cresta? E' pazzesco che nostri militari siano accusati da Nuova Dehli per l'omicidio mentre loro difendevano la nostra petroliera da un tentativo di abbordaggio di stile pirati.
Tra l'altro l'incidente avvenne nelle acque internazionali secondo i nostri esponenti della marina e il fatto che i pescatori-pirati (ancora da stabilire) erano cittadini indiani non basta per giustificare l'arroganza dell'India.
Mi aspetto la posizione dura della Farnesina e del nostro ministero della difesa per salvare i nostri militari dalle grinfie della giustizia corrotta ed antiquata dell'India.

I giornali "spazzature" locali stanno già demonizzando le azioni dei militari italiani impegnati a difendere la nave e chiedono che essi siano "puniti". Un sentimento così negativo ovviamente non dà nessuna garanzia di loro imparzialità...

Oggi è uscita la notizia di navi "da guerra" iraniane sono entrate nel mar Mediterraneo per la dimostrazione di forza e appoggio per il dittatore siriano Assad...

Allora, la notizia è assolutamente vera, le navi sono effettivamente state autorizzate dal regime militare del nuovo Egitto (ma sempre autocritico...) di passare il canale di Suez ed entrare nel "Mare Nostrum".
Però, ritengo che le agenzie di informazione avrebbero dovuto riportare il fatto accompagnato con il dovuto umorismo e non tentare di causare il panico come si trattase di portaerei USS R. Reagan pronto ad affondare intera marina dei paesi NATO!

Cari amici, si tratta di 1 cacciatorpediniere e di 1 nave da appoggio, i quali, sono malapena capaci di mantenersi in galleggiamento e non sono certo in grado di minacciare nessuno. La marina Italiana ad esempio è capace di neutralizzarle senza addittura lasciare le nostre acque territoriali...

Al posto di Khamenei ed Ahmadinejad, mi sarei addirittura vergognato a mandare i rottami arrugginiti nel Mediterraneo, ma evidentemente la loro disperazione è altissima.

Argentina v/s Gran Bretagna - Falklands

Argentina ha svolto una sessione parlamentare nella città di Ushuaia ieri. La città in questione si trova sulla punta estrema del continente Sud Americano, vicino ad Antartide. Questa è stata una mossa provocatoria che punta a rivendicare le isole Falkland che è la parte integrante del Regno Unito...

La noiosa Argentina ha fatto così anche 30 anni fa e ha preso la batosta! Stanno andando sempre in quella vecchia direzione di provocazioni, pressioni diplomatiche e la dimastrazione di forza militare.

Io sostengo la posizione del nostro alleato la Gran Bretagna e riconosco i Falklands come il territorio sovrano del regno unito.
Suggerisco agli argentini di fermarsi in tempo per evitare un'altra pubblica umiliazione!!!
Non si può andare contro il volere di residenti di Falklands e non si può neanche tenere questa gente sotto una continua pressione e paura.
Buenos Aires farebbe meglio ad occuparsi di problemi reali del paese che viene divorato dalla povertà e corruzione dilagante...

On. Alfano, faccia fermare tutto. La presenza di furbetti all'intero di PDL mi fanno indignare...
Ci aspettiamo la correttezza da un partito politico che si rivolge anche alle persone di credo conservatore liberale come me...

Noi conseratori-liberali vi diamo i voti perché il partito almeno sula carta, riflette i valori ed ideali occidentali e non perché siamo dei fan di Berlusconi come il suo leader, di cui tra l'altro a me personalmente non interessa nulla di nulla...

Le notizie riguardanti il processo Mills contro Silvio Berlusconi sta polarizzando l'attenzione di moltissimi italiani.

Ho seguito con molta attenzione tutta la vicenda del processo sopra menzionato ed ho potuto sviluppare la mia opinione personale sulla vicenda.

Le prove e le argomentazioni dell'accusa mi hanno convinto oltre "ogni ragionevole dubbio" e penso che il fatto contro Berlusconi sussiste e la corruzione sia effettivamente avvenuto. I tentativi della difesa di far ritenere il reato prescritto ha ulteriormente rafforzato la mia convinzione sul caso che già da prima appariva molto a sfavore del imputato.

Inoltre, personalmente ritengo che non ci sia nessun tipo di guerra personale condotta da parte della magistratura Italiana contro la persona di Silvio Berlusconi.
Un'ipotesi simile non regge e sembra addirittura ridicola, in quanto, le istituzioni italiane sono le istituzioni democratiche e trasparenti con numerosi scalini di controllo e di vigilanza all'interno di esse. Quindi, condurre un'azione simile contro Berlusconi sarebbe pressoché impraticabile e dificile da nascondere. E quelli che hanno la dimestichezza con le procedure simili lo sanno bene...

Da politologo, conosco molto bene alcuni paesi, in cui, le persecuzioni mirate da parte della magistratura contro alcuni politici scomodi sono praticate regolarmente e devo dire che l'Italia non è e non può mai essere tra questi.

Comunque, essendo conservatore liberale che vota verso il centro e centro-destra, mi sento di dire che non credo che il partito PDL debba essere tirato in ballo nelle vicende giudiziarie personali dell'ex premier... Bisogna distinguere la persona di Berlusconi dall'identità del partito.

Monti dice NO alle Olimpiadi del 2020

La rinnuncia ufficiale del governo tecnico di Monti per la candidatura di Roma per le olimpiadi del 2020 ha fatto nascere tantissime polemiche e sta ancora scaldando le anime...

La politica ha avuto la reazione variegata. Secondo l'UDC e il PD si tratta della scelta coraggiosa e responsabile, mentre il PDL non è molto contento...

Secondo lui, (Monti) l'Italia non è in grado di affrontare la spesa del genere e di fronte alla situazione attuale di crisi ed austerità non è una cosa appropriata da fare...

Io ritengo che il proffessore si sbagli di grosso.

Di solito, la candidatura delle città per le olimpiadi è una questione estramente seria che giova all'immagine del paese, rinnova le infrastrutture locali, crea tantissimi posti di lavoro ed atrae gli investitori stranieri che tanto ci mancano nel nostro paese...

Inoltre, il mio raggionamento si basa sulla presunzione di assoluta regolarità nella gestione di appalti per le olimpiadi e la massima rigidità e controlli di non sforare i budget prefissati.

Roma è la mia città e la conosco molto bene... Di conseguenza, penso che la preparazione per le olimpiadi avrebbe giovato immensamente sia a Roma che ai romani.
Se riuscivamo ad aggiudicarci la candidatura ufficiale era tutto da vedere ma comunque valeva la pena di tentare e di candidarsi.
Nel caso di successo, Roma 2020 avrebbe proiettato il Belpaese verso il centro dell'attenzione mediatica mondiale. Tutto questo processo avrebbe adirittura contribuito positivamente all'aumento dell'turismo verso l'Italia non solo per quel anno (2020) ma anche prima. Anche questo, è un grande fonte di reddito per il nostro paese.

Quindi ritengo che sia stata sprecata un'occasione unica.

Peccato...

P.S. il mio raggionamento si basa sulla presunzione di assoluta regolarità nella gestione di appalti e la massima rigidità di non sforare i budget prefissati.

Hollywood actor Sean Penn has become an Argentina advocate lately... He started to openly criticize UK over disputed Falklands and made some very ignorant comments on this matter.
Recently he was invited to visit Argentina president Fernandez where Mr. Penn called Britain a country with an imperialistic approach.

Why is he putting his nose where his ignorant comments can only deteriorate an already tense situation nobody knows...

Argentine made it's first grave mistake by invading Falklands 30 years ago and a current political deadlock is only their fault.
British repelled their lousy aggression and protected what was theirs...
I don't think anything else could be done for them now. Island is populated by British citizens and it's British.

Plus as a last argument, they should understand that they provoked, invaded but lost! Game over.

Mi fa ridere il modo in cui la sinistra italiana svolge le primarie. Un'anomalia del genere non ha la spiegazione razionale!

Il sistema del genere dà una mano solo agli outsider come il partito di Vendola e Co. per imporsi al interno dell'alleanza.

Io non voto a sinistra ma spero che i nostri connazionali che lo fanno, chiedano la revisione delle regole.

Unlike some somewhat ignorant European lawmakers, I believe we do not have to overestimate the (in)significance of Myanmar's so called reforms.

There is no democratization process going on there and those who really understand Myanmar political structure it should be more than clear, in fact, regime is just trying to survive by invoking these superficial changes. By doing so they hope West will make significant concessions and revoke all the sanctions against them. It would give them an extra oxygen to breath as the government is having some serious problems to self sustain itself.

We have to understand that the Junta regime is still there in power. It has not become less oppressive than it was 3 months ago and they certainly did not become democracy loving politicians.

Let's drop all these ridiculous appeals made by some Euro politicians calling to "appreciate" Myanmar reforms and be honest with ourselves.

They still oppress all those minority groups they are in war with and there still are hundreds and hundreds of political inmates rotting in Burma prisons.
Just because Myanmar's killer regime has given Aung San Suu Kyi a right to leave her home does not mean they have really changed.

Let's stop these stupid and hasty calls for "democratic" Burma!
We still have to wait years before we see what they have in mind.

Alfano sta salvando e sta riformando il PDL che era defunto tra le mani di Silvio, e sono molto contento. Facciamo che noi conservatori-liberali abbiamo il partito di riferimento serio!
Noi, conservator-liberali che crediamo nei valori occidentali di Centro-destra in primis, ci eravamo trovati senza il partito di riferimento durante gli ultimi anni di Berlusconi. Penso sia giunta l'ora di affrontare la realtà e chiedere che la Grecia vada fuori dall'Euro. Senza mezzi termi affermo che Atene non risponde più ai requisiti minimi per l'adesionealla alla zona della moneta unica!

E inoltre ritengo che non li abbia mai neanche rispettati in passato.

Purtroppo solo adesso si commincia ad ammettere che l'entrata della Grecia nell'Euro era una pazzia e i burocrati europei hanno sbagliato di grosso...

Da analista politico, nutro dei seri dubbi addittura sulla sua (Grecia) compatibilità di far parte dell'UE insieme a molti altri stati dell'est europeo che se giudicati in maniera imparziale, non soddisfano assulatamente le richieste minime dell'unione. Molti di loro non hanno neanche le strutture democratiche sviluppate e necessitàno molti anni di duro lavoro per sviluppare la piena compatibilità.

Europa è debole in quanto quasi un terzo dei suoi membri non sono compatibili con i nostri standard prefissati. Possiamo anche nominarli uno per uno - la Grecia, la Romania, la Bulgaria, l'Ungheria, il Cipro, la Lettonia e l'Estonia...

Tutto questo, inoltre, fa nascere la grande confusione all'interno di tutti quei paesi aspiranti che ancora non sono neanche membri dell'unione pur essendo molto più "avanti" di alcuni paesi già membri dell'EU...

Bisognerebbe anche indagare seriamente perché nel 2003 i nostri rappresentanti a Bruxelles decisero di ampliare l'unione tirando dentro i paesi non compatibili all'adesione...

Wrong US strategy towards rogue Iran...

Hitting hard an "evel" Iranian statehood and a religious institution of ayatollah Khamenei is a right thing to do and we Europeans must unanimously support any policy aiming to accomplish that goal... But things are not as easy as they may seem to be...

It's very sad that European Union is not an efficient and effective body in dealing with foreign threats. EU lacks capabilities to follow and maintain an uniform foreign policy path.
EU's fragmented and fractured general structure leaves us always as outsiders even though EU taken as a whole, is a most powerful and wealthy union in the world. We have a potential to dictate our policies and curb a little bit an American unilateralism that harms our national interest very often.

Even though the US is our most riliable and closest ally we can ever have, its foreign policy and actions are not always right and appropriate.
It's especially visible when we look at Washington's recent policy towards rogue and aggressive Iran.

While we all agree on a bisic issue here and want to distroy Iran's dictatorial regime and its politicized religious structures of Khamenei, we have to do that without harming its normal people which are just unfortunate hostages of this dramatic circumstances created around their country...

I think a recent US-led strategy targeting Iran's crude oil exports is a very controversial and dangerous one. We do not want it to become a serious economic problem for country's poor population that depends entirely on social assistance coming from the state. If we deprive Iran of it's basic income to function as a state, we will condemned its innocent population to starve to death as government will certainly limit and eventually cancel every type of assistance or help for its citizens...

I believe Iranian regime does not care about its people and its citizens and in case of major difficulties it will choose to maintain power at all costs rather than admit its defeat in foreign policy and "leave"... (obviously)

Basically, every single strike that will be made by us aginst Iran will have to be oriented on sanctioning regime and its abilities to continue doing what they are doing now.

But if we decide to cut a main "oxigen flow" of Iran, that is its oil revenues, we will seriously harm Iranian people first before starting to slowly damage regime roots as well.

We need to think seriously once again on this matter and perhaps we will find some other viable options to stop a paranoid Iranian regime without directly harming innocent individuals living there...

EU and US struggling economies...

Even though it's highly unlikely Europe Will burst during this economic crisis, difficulties for a fast recovery remain.

Current crisis comes from an American corrupt economic system that infected Western Europe's markets.
Unfortunately, Wall Street killed a fair and just market economy system and jeopardized a global free market economy in all over the world.
Actually, it (Wall Street) has been killing a fair and correct market economy basis since late 80s, when markets started to be considered as some kind of devine and untouchable entities. Entities to be left alone and have faith in... but why???
As we all remeber, it all started during Raegan / Thatcher era and it took them 25 years to ruin the system for good.
Lack of watchdogs and total absence of strict regulations was a perfect recipe for disaster.

Now Europe tries to cope with this morbid "infection" that came from currupted US markets and from their corrupt rating agencies like Standard & Poors etc.
Plus, considering that Washington, including Obama administration, did not do anything effective to punish and correct Wall Street structure, Europe's battle against this filthy crisis is much more difficult.

Market speculations are still there and lucrative and money oriented rating agencies are still taking political decisions in order to bring economic advantages for certain groups not always deserving ratings they receive...

Unless we start targeting and reorganizing these corrupted entities right away, no one will be safe...

Therefore first of all US politicians in Washington has to take their own responsibilities and start to clean up the mess.
Europe has to do its own part as well by reinventing a better management for its economy and by strengthening the system of a common European currency - Euro.

Without tackling a real problem, there are no possibilities for a full and final recovery...

France v/s Turkey and Armenian genocide

We see how the situation between France and Turkey is being deteriorated as Paris parliament passes the law that will punish whoever denies the genocide of Armenians carried out by Ottoman empire during WW I...

It's an extremely complicated story that acknowledges Armenians as targeted victims of Ottoman empire but there is no final consensus between historians. Obviously, what France does is not going to help neither legitimizing the truth nor helping to reconcile two nations in question.

It's worth noting that the only reason Paris did it, is a determination of French-Armenian lobby in France to fight Turkey as they are convinced their ancestors were ruthlessly murdered by Turks and they believe it's needed to be formally recognized...

France is full of french men and women with Armenian origins that constitute a significant part of French elite.
From french-Armenian singer Charle Aznavour to actual today's polititians, they remain extremely sensitive for above mentioned argument and try to use their influences to obtain their goals and objectives.

I think it's extremely ill-timed any way, and therefore, I agree with french prime minister in this.
Plus, the punishment for not recognizing the fact as a genocide is absolutely ridiculous, as nobody can really forbid people from having their personal opinions regarding this highly controversial historic fact.

And last but not least, I believe French-Armenian lobbies in Paris might've exaggerated their intent a little bit by having pushed on something that appears to be against French national interest itself.

Supporting the theory of a genocide and pushing on world science communities to legitimize the fact would've been a far more sensible and smart move from France. They failed to do so and enstead they chose to use a local legislation to "solve" the matter.
Unfortunately, it's not going to help Armenian cause at all and what's more important, France has to deal with the serious consequences from now on.

Turkey has already promised to "retaliate" against French state and to make France "pay" for it's decision to humiliate Turkish nation.

I would like to repeat once again: - there are strong evidences suggesting and backing the theory of Armenians regarding the genocide and I personally might even believe it's true, but political reaction of France does not seem in its national interest at all, as it's aiming to rupture a fragile balance between France and Turkey, both NATO members and military allies.

We must follow the argument closely.

The behavior of Arab league monitors in Syria is becoming ridiculous.
Arab League decision making body is in a ridiculous situation as well.
To be short, Arab league is not capable of dealing with Syrian problem because of their political structure.
League consists mostly of countries with dictatorship regimes that have no political will to crush Assad.
That's that simple.
Therefore I sympathize with Syrian peaple that seek relative freedom but don't see Arab League being capable of helping them.
That's not gonna happen!
I fail to see, for example, Sudan dictatorship and similar other league member states willing to fight for freedom of Syrian people. It's nonsense...

A corrupt American economic system kills global market economy!

We Europeans start to understand only now how an American corrupt economic system is killing market economy basics around the world and infecting European and Asian markets with their own and personal problems.

This is the only real and undeniable reason that grew criticism of Europeans against free market economy and capitalist system, even though system strucrure has nothing to do with today's problems.

Actually, the truth is that free market economy system is the best economic system there is, and if all it's regulations are observed to a letter, it's also a fairest system in the world.

The only cause and the only source of a current economic crisis is called - the U.S. together with it's corrupt economic system that has somehow "hijacked" an entire global economy many years ago and has been unjustly manipulating it since then...

Wall Street, that is strongly bonded with local politics in Washington, has been operating all these years with absolutely no regard for regulations that should've guaranteed correct functionality of a global market economy in general.

Wall Street made serious violations during all these years, including falsifying data and unjustly favoring certain companies over others.

Same reason has infected European markets that were relatively healthier and much more politically correct, but equally "guilty" in non observing golden rules of free market economy.
Unfortunately, Washington did nothing to punish the system and has surrended to these economy monsters because of it's political interests.

But it's not over yet. There are credit rating agencies that are contributing negatively to this crisis throu their unjust, politically motivated and only profit oriented actions. These agencies are: Moody's, Standard &poor's etc...

US corrupt economic system with the complicity of local politics had managed (25 years ago or so...) to "build" those above mentioned credit rating agencies like devine entities that had/have a last word over every country's economy in the world. And since these agencies are in close cooperation with American political and economical lobbies, and are profit oriented, they are extremely partial and aggressive.

As we saw recent public rate downgradings of certain strong Western European countries by S&P's is a proof for everything we said before...

Serious measures must be taken to deal with this morbid problem.
We should not satisfy their "criminal" requests but cut their influences over world economies.
It is not possible that couple of politically motivated persons at Moody's and Standard & Poor's decide the fate of entire group of countries and their populations.

We should create a trully free agencies NOT situated in the US that will monitor and rate world economy and single markets. Then we should force our local markets as well as Wall Street to start seriously complying with market economy regulations that will guarantee it's fair and smooth functionality.

But first, Washington has to reform and modernize Wall Street and it's economic system in general in order to recover a minimum credibility in the eyes of its own population as well as Europeans.

Meanwhile, we need to start rejecting US based above stated credit rating agencies that are corrupt groups of profit oriented and politically motivated groups and have nothing to do with impartial rating studies.

Russia, Iran, China and North Korea (not necessarily in this order though) are the most immediate threats the Western nations and NATO will have to face sooner or later and its pointless denying it.

Everyone of them is a different type of threat for us and every single one of them sees us, Westerners, as their ideological and cultural enemies...

Unfortunately, there are lots of ignorant and irrational politicians in Western European nations and in the U.S. as well, that fail to see and to perceive the threat as such and prefer to push a self destructing policies with some of above mentioned states (like Russia and China).

Unfortunately, there are plenty of irrational and idealistic thinking throughout certain lobbies and social and political circles out there, that sees and promotes these countries rather differently from what they really are.
Some of these individuals not only fail to see and feel the inevitable outcome, but they choose to interact with the "enemy" in a very naive and silly manner.
Such attitude gives China and Russia for example, precious advantages in pursuing their goals and objectives.

Together with Russian Federation's dictatorship regime and Moscow's everlasting antagonism against us and against freedom and democracy in general, we have to deal with immensely dangerous China as well.
Beijing and its Communist regime is the one which is directly nurturing a criminal state of North Korea and almost openly welcomes Pyonyangs' sadistic approaches towards South Korean democracy and its allies.

Together with Kremlins' help and assistance, China is sustaining 100% of North Korea's capabilities to be able to exist and directing it's foreign policy basics in a very "effective" way.

There is no secret in this and considering that it's clear to everyone, We have to act accordingly... (but we are not)

Iranian "crisis" is a different story but Tehran as well is assisted and encouraged by the very same "axis of evel" that is Moscow - Beijing duo...

I believe we have to deal with an actual reality and should not mistake real intentions of our enemies with what they usually state...

Israeli problems with democracy and freedom...

As we all know, Israel's real democracy is still somewhat far from being perfect and the quality of democratic system in general is in a dramatic need for change and improvements.
But Israel remains the one and only democratic state/nation in the middle east and therefore it deserves our close attention and analysis when new laws or new state regulations are risking to alter the fragile balance of country's democratic institutions.

Today's polemics are all around a new and harsh regulation of country's citizenship law that clearly discriminates against certain groups (Palestinians in this case...) and officially admits the process.

Basically, there is a new law in Jewish state that prevents Palestinians married to Arab Israelis from obtaining Israeli citizenship or residency.

Some say , it is a dark day for the protection of human rights and for the Israeli Supreme Court and they might be right.

Fact is that Israeli supreme court admits discrimination but justifies it by saying - " human rights could not override security concerns"!

- "Human rights could not override security concerns".. What??? Really???
It's an extremely unprofessional and dangerous statement that wakes up in me numerous old history facts when in the name of state security, terrible mistakes were made...
I insist that rule of law in Israel can not be undermined by these confusing exceptions in certain laws, that punishes certain ethnic heritage because they are assumed dangerous.

I'm convinced that nations or ethnicities can not be all generalized and seen as good or bad ones.
Israelis (politicians) should know very well the reason for my analysis and should never allow such injustices taking place inside the country.

It's obvious that this regulation is undemocratic and even clearly racist that needs to be seriously reviewed. Either the law becomes equal for everyone and no ethnic group and no foreigner is allowed to become a citizen through marriage, or everyone should be entitled to benefit from the law.
Security threats (as feared by authorities) must be dealt with on a person to person basis and not by a general assumption theory...

Russia & Georgia's new type of dictatorship...

As I closely studied the case, Georgian internal political situation seems to be fairly complicated and well disguised in something it's not...
Mr. Saakashvili's initial reforms that came right after a bloodless "rose revolution" swiftly went in a wrong direction.

Despite evident lack of any real democratic changes in Georgia, we, western Europeans, and US politicians preferred to deal with Saakashvili's regime and partially contributed to legitimize his unorthodox actions in front of Georgian general population.

Reason we and Americans did it is very complicated, but it's basically in connection with Georgian president's ambitious program that was promising democracy for the country and his antagonistic views towards current Russian dictatorship and especially it's leader, Mr. Putin...

The West generally understands and shares certain views on Russian regime and it's state of art modern dictatorship, therefore Georgia seemed to be a good "weapon" against Kremlin (together with numerous other strategies in place) to support and show to Russian population that if Georgia were able to become a democracy they could have done it too. It means this should've become a massage to people of Russia to start demanding the change...

Unfortunately, things in Georgia did not go as planned and even though our willingness to accelerate Georgia's integration in Euro Atlantic structures (NATO first), was real, Tbilisi failed to meet those really minimum requirements and standards that make countries eligible for NATO membership.
Russia knew western plans very well and even though Georgia was far from real democracy and therefore, far from NATO Membership Action Plan in 2008, Kremlin did not want to risk the situation and acted decisively. By taking advantage of Georgia's weakness (presence of two pro Russian breakaway regions), Putin personally decided to ignore international commuinty and to invade both of these territories, after creating a strong Soviet type of provocative move first that Georgia (as any normal country) could not ignore.

After Russian barbaric invasion of Georgia in August 2008, the government structures in Tbilisi started to counteract an immense political pressure that was coming from an aggressive Kremlin. This pressure is difficult to withstand as it's aiming to permanently undermine Georgia's territorial integrity and therefor to block Tbilisi's NATO integration process for ever...

The situation created in Georgia is a "security fail safe" for Moscow and no matter how real and fast Georgian democratization process will be, it leaves a problem of it's territorial integrity. And without it it's immensely difficult to become a NATO member state. (Even though we already have a precedent regarding Cyprus).

For now, Georgian democracy is still lacking and country is becoming less and less free inside.
A total absence of free media is a serious lack for a country having so many ambitions towards NATO and EU integration process, and high level government corruption is killing country's internal justice.
Plus, an absolute lack of free and impartial judiciary system and police force completely privatized by ruling party, puts Georgian "non-democracy" bar on a very low level...

I think we, as an EU, should pressure Georgian government until it realizes real situation and starts an immediate process of reforms going into the right direction. Otherwise country will suffer serious consequences. Georgia left face to face with its most dangerous enemy, Russia, has no alternative but a strong and functional democracy.

It's the only way the West can save them from Moscow.

Italia e militari, sulla difesa non si risparmia...

Le ultime polemiche politiche riguardano i nostri futuri progetti militari che servono all'Italia onde continuare ad essere all'altezza della situazione quando si tratta di autodifesa.

Si tratta dell'acquisto di caccia bombardieri di ultimissima generazione F-35 che metterebbe il nostro paese ai livelli altissimi per la sua capacità di autodifesa e assicurerà ai nostri militari il dominio assoluto dei nostri celi, e quindi, la garanzia di inviolabilità di nostro spazio aereo da qualsiasi soggetto ostile. Il prezzo complessivo dell'upgrade militare si aggira intorno ai 15 miliardi di Euro ma trattandosi appunto della difesa, è un investimenti più che sensato.

Dobbiamo sapere e riconoscere che non si risparmia sulla difesa e la parola "Pace" non esiste senza forte deterrente militare che tiene gli ipotetici aggressori alla larga dall'Italia.
Senza la nostra potenza militare, nessuno rispetterà la nostra integrità territoriale e al primo bisogno da parte degli "ostili" (magari la Cina, la Russia, Iran, e alcuni paesi arabi...) ci ritroveremmo invasi, attaccati e costretti a subire le cose che andrebbero contro i nostri interessi nazionali.
Senza la nostra potenza militare, non ci sarà e non ci sarebbe nessuna bella vita all'italiana.

Senza la nostra potenza militare che ci fa da garante, non avremmo mai avuto la possibilità di vivere "in pace" e di pensare alle altre cose belle della vita...

La regola degli relazioni internazionali è estremamente chiara. I paesi deboli si adeguano alle esigenze e alle richieste dei più forti. Nel caso contrario subiscono le conseguenze, e essendo deboli militarmente, raramente riescono ad autodifendersi con successo.

Tutto il resto sono solo delle inutili chiacchere politiche che non portano da nessuna parte...

Hungary should have no space in EU...

What is today's Hungary doing inside EU or the NATO is very hard to understand for thorough political analyst specializing in European affairs...

Today's Hungarian standards has nothing to do with a democratic and liberal country and an ever-growing stringent and repressive laws agains various types of freedoms in Hungary, alarms Brussels seriously.

The truth is that Hungary has gone towards a mild dictatorship with it's current prime minister and it's ruling party and European unelected and unprofessional bureaucrats has no idea how to deal with it...

Then there is another serious problem related to Hungary, and it's Budapest's continuous political provocations towards its' neighbor states with Hungarian minority groups living in these countries.
Hungary still (un)consciously claims it's desire to control (and perhaps reclaim) all these areas populated by ethnic Hungarians, even though areas in question are clearly sovereign territories of other neighboring countries...

There've been cases recently when Hungarian government officials traveled in these areas without any previous authorization from those states in question and I believe it's a very serious violation of international law...

To be exact, Hungary maintains very aggressive stance towards it's neighbours and tries to pursue it's national interests in a very "old fashion" manner, even though Budapest has NO real political or military power capable of supporting it's national interests and ambitions on international level. Very peculiar behavior indeed...

These two negative aspects of Hungary, automatically puts Hungary non-compliant of minimum EU and Nato requirements and causes serious headaches within European Union's decision-making bodies...

Opposition politicians in Hungary have understand the seriousness of their current situation but I doubt something will change soon. It's up to Hungarian people to know and understand where they wanna go...

Georgia's democracy is still crawling backwards...

As I've been warning before, an internal political situation in Georgia is still going backwards.

President saakashvili is exercising an immensely heavy and violent pressure on his political rivals and using his absolute majority in parliament, to invent and "manufacture" more and more stringent regulations against opposition parties, their single supporters and against free press in order to consolidate his own arbitrary power.

Recent criminal military intervention of Russia in Georgia and subsequent occupation of two of Georgian provinces by Russian army, has changed negatively an entire political reality in Tbilisi and severely altered current government strategy.

Necessary precautionary actions undertaken by Georgian intelligence services in order to counteract any possible threat coming from Russian secret services aiming to further destabilize country's internal political situation, has become a very dangerous weapon in Mr. Saakashvili's hands, which started to use this so called "struggle against Russian espionage" as an effective method in order to terrorize and punish his own political rivals as well.

Georgia's current president is trying to influence citizens of his country by claiming that a vast majority of political parties in Georgia are somehow connected to Russia and even though there is no proof (except Nino Burjanadze story) to support this paranoid theory, a remote suspicion rised by Saakashvili is enough to tarnish their political reputation. Sometimes a simple personal or business trip to Russia made by various opposition politicians or their family members becomes enough "evidence" to question their loyalty and trigger police controls...

"Russian threat" is also invoked and used in order to justify severe law enforcement controls against single opposition party politicians and their private business enterprises; and considering that Georgia has neither free police structures nor independent judiciary system quite yet, these actions appear to be encouraged and sanctioned by president/government himself.

These aspects are only few examples of Georgia's internal political processes, but unfortunately, current negative tendency is taking Georgia far away from its' true aspirations and political objectives (Euro-Atlantic integration agenda).

I saw recently a France24 documentary dedicated to North Korea...

That's insane how poor brainwashed people live there... And what's more insane is how these criminal so-called "mild" dictatorships of Putins' Russia and communist China do hiddenly support this bloody power grip in North Korea.

We western Europeans and even Americans are powerless to influence the situation in North Korea without triggering a war with it, while a small and harmless political will from Moscow and Beijing to help north Korean nation should be enough to "destroy" the self-sufficiency of Pyongyangs' criminal regime and collapse it's Stalinism reality once and for all...

Unfortunately, Russia and China will never do that as they want to keep US and it's allies "occupied"... "Harming" Pyongyang for Kremlin and Beijing is unthinkable as autocracies and dictatorship usually tend to support each other.
That's how international relations work and political strategies function. Solidarity between those countries who have similar types of governance is very strong and sometimes goes even over national interests of a state.

The same can be considered for democratic types of governance. EU-US alliance is not based only on a common historical background but its based on shared values and ideals as well.

The fact remains that North Koreans (people) have no understanding of politics in general and are kept in a total segregation without being able of analysing the global reality and draw necessary conclusions.

I wonder how long this situation can go on like this? And than, I'm even more preoccupied as I see that the situation has been going on there without any change for over 50 years now...

How to solve Russo-Georgian conflict and why is Georgia in need for a pro-democracy treatment...

Georgia is still in an urgent need for an intensive pro-democracy treatment in order to avoid it's slow crawling back toward dictatorship.

Since 2008 war with Russia, there's been a huge setback in Georgia's path towards a possible democratization that stopped country's internal progress and deteriorated it's already weak progress building itinerary.

Of course, the war itself has been a major destruction for this small Easter European/Caucasus nation, but a subsequent political changes in country's internal politics turned to be even worse.

Plenty of social and economical problems are blocking country's progress and lack of true freedom and liberalism keeps social transformation stagnant. As I said numerous times, there has not yet occured a necessary social revolution in Georgia that has to change the way Georgians think and perceive social and individual responsibilities towards their state.

Orthodox church is playing a major role too in all these and some of it's fundamentalistic views aren't really helping. Especially in Georgia, where almost 95% of it's citizens trust and consider what their Patriarch has to say, even though really few of them (people) observe strict orthodox living rules.

Mr. Saakashvili, on the other hand, is building a very bizarre governance that aims to totally control country's way of life and periodically imposes some arbitrary rules to insure the success of his control program.

After Russian barbaric invasion of Georgia in August 2008, the government structures in Tbilisi started to counteract an immense political pressure that was coming from an aggressive Kremlin regime and aiming to permanently undermine Georgia's territorial integrity and therefor to block Tbilisi's NATO integration process.

Unfortunately, that's exactly what happened and thanks to our, (European Union) inability to counteract this unjust and aggressive Russian move, Georgia has been left alone. No matter what Americans are saying now, fact is that Washington himsel "betrayed" his small ally that got swallowed by Russian Federation and temporarily(???) lost it's two northern provinces.

Mr. Saakashvili failed to calculate the gravity of situation before the invasion and hoped we or Americans would've defended him agains Moscow and it's dark plans.
It was so naive of him that I hardly can believe he really counted on us so blindly, underestimating a political and first of all a military weight of Kremlin...

Any way, the situation Georgia is in today is very difficult.
There always is a chance for a new war as Russia could trigger it whenever it wishes so, and Tbilisi today is very isolated because of our, European wrong foreign policy course.
The only viable response to break a stalemate is to really become a free and democratic state and hope that one day Russia too will get itself a democratic type of governance, instead of a present dictatorship.

This second (remote) option will certainly be a huge help for Georgia as any normal and democratic government in Russia should recognize the illegal nature of their occupation strategy and should de-occupy Georgian separatist regions as they will certainly recognize Tbilisi's territorial integrity.

The first option for Georgia's more democratization is very urgent and if carried out successfully, will be capable of automatically strengthening back alliances with the EU and the US. If Georgia becomes a real democracy, we as an EU, will be forced to defend it as will Washington.

I doubt Saakashvili is heading there though... Country that not yet has a free media, free press and country where political opponents do not recognize the legitimacy of one another is hard to call democracy. Country where there has been no precedent of one political opponent congratulating another after elections is very hard to call democracy. Country where an entire police and military force is politicized and sympathizes with ruling party is also very bizarre.
Police force has received a virtually unlimited power in Georgia and in a total absence of an independent judiciary, there are no guarantees for impartiality.

These are few examples of where Georgia should intervene and change in order to start "coming" towards European Union. It's not much but it's a good start.

New violence in Egypt

The truth is that my sympathy and respect for Egyptian people makes me very sad for their current personal, political and economical sufferings.

Unfortunately, the grip of dictatorial military council continues to suffocate the arab spring of Egypt and tries to impose itself as an acceptable and everlasting presence in front of it's own people.

Although there is a good and useful personal "charge" within Egypt's young generation for change and freedom, the real democracy building is still as far as it always been.

Recent violence outbreak showed us Europeans perhaps the most deplorable face of Egyptian military and it's violent and indiscriminated reaction againd protesters.

Though it's extremely difficult for Europeans to understand what the military has to do with maintaining a public order inside the country, it's not uncommon for northern African states to use military as a viable deterrent agains people.

I still believe that a small part of so-called demonstators trying to use violence needs to be isolated from a.bigger crowd of peaceful activists, but what we see there has nothing to do with it. What we see is an indiscriminated use of force agains almost every single protestor in order to induce fear and make them leave.

Classic dictatorial agenda that has proven itself very functional in many countries. We have seen in Putin's Russia the latest example of such a violent "theatre".

I still wish Egypt will succeed in it's path for a democratic transformation some day and we will keep a close eye on it...

Mario Monti si rivela una grande ed annunciata delusione. Un burocrate senz'anima e in più, un ex commissario europeo, non può fare niente di buono per l'Italia ormai.

Lui è un perfetto rappresentante dei poteri forti che colpisce solo ed esclusivamente i deboli (quindi poveri) e i politici di tutti e due schieramenti lo sa bene...

Si poteva non toccare la gente povera che guadagna 800, 1000, 1500 o anche 2000 euro al mese e intervenire invece solo sugli stipendi molto più alti, combattere l'evasione fiscale di massa tutta made in Italy e mettere menti giovani, e quindi, capaci di pensare e rischiare (quando serve) ai posti di decision making.

The EU and Why Germany has no right to be the boss...

Despite what our some "ignorant" EU bureaucrats will tell you, the first "fetus" of Europeans Union idea was created shortly after world war II, in order to limit and avoid any future leadership of Germany throughout European continent. More or less, we have managed to do that for a while, at least up to year 2000...

The fear for Nazi-like bloodsheds and conflicts repeating themselves and insane "deutsche" supremacy based ideologies re-surfacing again in the future, the US and other European nations decided to share power and deprive Germany of a dangerous power concentration as we Europeans feared and do still fear a particular and peculiar ways of German state loving imposing itself over other nations and considering themselves somehow better then others. We in Italy think so... And there are majority of Euro nations that think so as well.
So why do we act differently?

As an English Euro parliamentarian, Mr. Nigel Farage told lately, endorsing this German proposed draft project for strict fiscal and economic union that aims to literary punish those in difficulties (and not help them) and even further imposing franco-German rule over other "secondary" nations, is exactly what EU should have prevented from happening.

Unfortunately, those unelected Euro bureaucrats do not understand anything about this threat and considering that they had not been elected by anyone, do not fear responsibilities for their irresponsible actions.

In my case, I hoped my country would've acted differently and counteract this outrageous German seize of power but I was wrong.

Actually, I should've known better as Mr. Mario Monti, an unelected prime minister of my country, is a former Euro commissioner himself...

I still think that UK has made an excellent choice by walking away from this insanity and I still think EU should be reorganized better as soon as possible, otherwise we will soon find ourselves under full German dictate.

Rich "pigs" of Italian parliament refuse salary cuts.

As we all know from today's comments coming from Italian lawmakers, they are unanimously united in a bipartisan manners and refuse to agree on a draft proposal proposed by a new government and asking them to cut their overwhelmingly high wages and make them compatible with their European counterparts.
It means slicing their salaries almost in half from today's 250 000 Euros + benefits to European average of 150 000 Euros + benefits.
It seems completely unacceptable for almost 95% of Italian lawmakers that challenge new government's proposal and want the matter discussed only by the parliament.

We are witnessing a privileged group of social "blood suckers" united, asking to regulate their own paychecks and trying to block the law by challenging it's procedural flaws.

Unfortunately, as many other times, even this time my fellow citizens yes are angry and furious but by the end of the day, nobody will come out for a revolution and everything will be forgotten.

I hope they'll prove me wrong at least this time.

All I know, I will certainly refuse to comply to any austerity measures until MPs slice their wages in half first.

I hope everyone does the same...

EU has died yesterday & Germany is a "killer"...

I believe the UK is being the only smart country within the EU these days, that has a good intuition and excellent foreign policy...

The EU has died yesterday. The European Union as a free and liberal union of major European democracies and newly democratized eastern European states has seized to exist and Germany and its' anti-liberal type of reasoning is the only one to blame...

Punitive and oppressive EU was created that will reflect clearly the nature of German philosophy of rude and overzealously rigorous state that punishes those having problems and by doing so, it setts an example to "fear".

I do not know, Germans might find themselves in favor of such a punitive union but me, as a citizen of Italy, refuse to accept such a regressive overhaul for a basis of our union.

We Italians as a one of those handful of global superpowers, must refuse and decline such a union. Especially when it's led by a state like Germany. With all due respect for German people, I doubt Deutschland has a moral right to be a leader of Europe and having pockets full of euros certainly do not give them such a right...

Unfortunately there are lots of small states of "secondary" force in EU that find themselves in favor for such a dictat in order to maintain their own economic interests. Then there is a France, that wants to be a leader but knows it's impossible without connecting with Berlin chancellor. So she does so without realizing the gravity of her mistake.

Any way, it seems Berlin has blackmailed everyone in Brussels and assumed command of EU without being "voted" for it.

The situation is very serious and it's still time for those amateur and ignorant politicians (in Italy as well) to wake up and undo the damage.

I wanna know what's a position of our prime minister Monti about it, as soon as possible.

Italy remains an only European superpower capable of shattering this insane tendency within the EU and I'd like to see Rome assuming such position as soon as possible.

Russian current autocracy will be (re)transformed into a real dictatorship.

As we all see, an extremally dangerous dictatorship is on it's way in Russia. It will certainly (re)transform a current Russian autocracy back into a real "full metal jacket" dictatorship.

Even though this was the most aggressive and total election rigging in Russian history, regime failed to manage "stealing" more than a 50 % of seats in Duma.
It means only one thing... If there were no election falsification allowed, Russian citizens were finally ready to change the political fabric of there country once and for all...

Meanwhile Mr. Putin, in a very Soviet style, tries to reshape reality in order to fit its own petty needs. He tried to blame us Europeans and Americans for latest demonstrations in Moscow and promised an "iron hand" against those involved.

Unfortunately the regime totalitarianism is so deep in Russia that I doubt demonstrators will be able to change anything soon.

We'll wait and see...

Italian politicians don't represent us, Italians...

Italian parliament... - it consists mostly of old (very old) politicians and partly of young but amateur lawmakers that understand nothing about political sciences and international relations.

Old politicians often work and act for their "own good" showing almost zero respect for country's interests and needs. Actually most of them are very same lawmakers that were present in that building (parliament) since '80 and '90. They tend to keep their posts and work for their own political and economical interests, but the problem is that as of today, there is no alternative to this "semi-dead" state in which our country has been stuck for decades.

I'm not talking about any particular coalition here, it concerns both political areas in our country comprising right wing and left wing politicians all together.

The truth is, my country has a worldwide record when it come to politician's ages.

We have one of the oldest political figures in the world by having a president of Italy that is almost 90 years old and a prime minister that is close to 80. I mean Berlusconi, because our current "ad interim" prime minister Mario Monti has not been elected but put there by Italy's president Napolitano, in order to lead a temporary government after Berlusconi's resignation.

Actually there are some young(er) politicians also present in Italian political arena but many of them are "put" there by those old politicians in order to have someone young and fresh within the list of their political parties.
It means they are not there thanks to there abilities and expertise but thanks to an arbitrary decisions made by high level party representatives. That's why they are not "free" and they are not good at what they're doing and naturally, they are incapable of making a difference in situations where young and risk-capable minds are required.

Decision makers close to 70, 80 and 90 are not and can not be capable of guiding a country like Italy. Physiological limitations of elderly prevent them from thinking and acting in a dynamic way. Italy often needs split second decisions in it's political processes and calculated or "inculcated" risks are often required in order to keep country going. Our old politicians are not capable of such a performance and insignificant number of young politicians is not enough to compensate for that...

Majority of growth related problems of Italy together with it's never carried out political reforms, are related to our old politician's instabilities to manage real needs of our country.
Italy is a world's seventh superpower with an immensely strong political, economical and military basis, but it lacks decent political forces in order to be dynamic. All our formidable power will soon become null if we fail to resuscitate our economic growth and carry out very important structural reforms in order to push out country into a new era.

The moral is - Italy needs young political force and young politicians in key positions within government in order to survive. No temporary or technical government (even here the youngest minister is almost 60!) will be enough if this key requirement is not met very soon.

The bizzare US system of mobile communications

Every time I read things regarding the Google/Android world and some news announcing arrivals of a brand new and highly advanced smartphones for sale, I discover how bizarre and unjust the American system of phone companies are...

To me, as a Western European individual living in Italy, seems utterly strange that smartphone market in the US is not free at all and it's subject to strange politics of mobile communication companies that violently interfere and limit people's possibilities to buy an unlocked smartphone they desire.

While for us Europeans, mobile communication companies are just sim card suppliers that give us a new mobile phone number, activate all the features available on it and put us on a worldwide roaming system allowing us to travel wherever we want with our sim card, US companis are big and aggressive cash machines holding a smartphone business monopoly all by themselves.
European mobile communication companies can not limit us in any way in buying us a smartphone we want and they can not make us to become 2 or 3 year contract "slaves".
Most of European consumers buy their technologically advanced devices free from mobile company brands and pay a full price for it. The latest advanced devices we buy are not only phones, but they are full multimedia devices and once purchased they are ours and we can operate them on any mobile carier in the world without having those lousy mobile brandings stamped on a phone shell.

In the US on the other hand, though there are some minor exceptions from this rule, majority of highly advanced smartphone customers are at the mercy of "blood-thirsty" mobile companies that violently intervene in personal choices of their clients and make them buy phones almost only through their own networking.
By doing so, they curb "something" from a smartphone's original full pricing in order to attract those interested in buying a particular device, but they force their clients to sign insanely long contracts sometimes even 3 years long...
By signing these weard contracts the client becomes "a slave" of that company and takes home a smartphone with that nasty mobile company branding sign on it. In most cases these smartphones are locked and capable of functioning only on those particular networks.

But it's not over yet... American clients are paying insanely high prices in phone bills and the arrogance of their mobile companies complicate things even further by limiting the rights of their clients for a full worldwide roaming activation that we Europeans take for granted on our pay as you go sim cards.
US companies "force" customers to stay with them for a very long time in order to "qualify" for an unlimited worldwide roaming feature and they treat their customers phone bills like they were their credit suppliers instead of a service providers and so on and so on....

When me and my French and German colleagues have learned about this madness we understood how fortunate we western Europeans are by not having here mobile companies like those described in this article.

The system I described here is absurd and it's almost like Oil companies one day starting to sell you cars and making you to sign long contracts with them in which you agree to buy gasoline only from that one particular oil company...

Russian falsified elections

False and fictitious election day in Russia is in progress. In early hours there were already more than 5000 serious violations registered by "Golos", the one and only independent monitoring agency in Russia funded by us Europeans in order to track violations.
Russian regime "servants" have recently detained it's director in order to seize her laptop and look how much Golos knew...

Unfortunately, there never was an election process in Russia that we might call fair, correct balanced and it seems that even this time the trend is unchanged.

It's a sad and shameful process for Russia. I firmly believe it's citizens deserve better...

The EU and Georgia's strained democracy.

Since 2003 so called "Rose Revolution", Georgia has been particularly strong in internal PR strategies focusing on spreading strong and aggressive pro-government messages.
As we all know, exaggerated government centered propaganda regarding country's "successful democratization and progress" was designed by country's ruling party in order to influence the ability of Georgian citizens to assess independently the real progress.
As soon as you know Georgian political situation better, you'll notice how inaccurate and distorted that propaganda really is...

There also is a certain information distortion within Georgia, coming from the ruling party, that see us Europeans entirely supporting an internal political processes and so called "Democratic achievements" of the country and recognizing them, but it is not so...

Unfortunately, Georgia had a huge misfortune in relations with it's aggressive northern neighbor (Russia) that via military intervention had occupied two of it's small regions and had since unilaterally recognized them as "independent states'.
The conflict was largely criticized by almost entire international community and we, as European Union, have contributed in brokering a cease fire agreement between Tbilisi and Moscow.
So when it comes to international relations and our political strategies we support Georgia's territorial integrity and condemn actions of Russian Federation that has illegally violated borders of a sovereign state and occupied it's regions.

But when it comes to Georgia's internal affairs and some "imaginary" progresses that supposedly should align Tbilisi with European level democracies we surely have significantly different opinions.

The level of a true democracy in Georgia is still very far away from being considered seriously and has yet a long way to go...

There still is no signs of a serious cultural revolution in Georgia that will transform once and for all the way Georgian society thinks.
There still is a huge politics vs religion issues in the country that often sees the church prevailing in very serious questions where only political considerations are needed etc...

Local experts are telling me that there still is no freedom of mass media in Georgia and those who try to be and act free encounter numerous artificially created problems in order to "comply" to minimum requirements in order to exist.

Corruption is far from being defeated as well. Even though a serious progress has been made since 2004, high level corruption is still a persistent problem for a local society.

The lack of a truly liberal government also contributes negatively to all these problems and arbitrary decisions and punitive measures towards certain social phenomenons are visible.

For now, as a political analyst, I struggle to see a real and viable way out from this difficult internal situation and I can not see anyone really capable in opposition circles with power and moral determination to change things real fast...
So once again it's up to Georgian people to assess the situation and make suitable choices in order to move towards a real progress building that will put their country closer to us.

We, as European Union, must help Georgian people to understand what the democracy really is starting by lifting strict visa regulations Georgians are subjected to today and give them an opportunity to travel freely and see by themselves...
As i understand, today it's extremely difficult for them to visit the Union member states and we should help them to ease the process, just like we did it for Serbia, Montenegro and Albania lately.

European Currency - Euro yes or Euro no?

Unfortunately, sometimes we hear some strange considerations related to Euro that fail to clearly explain the real sense of this currency and to design it's true significance for member states.

The inefficient European political bodies and very aggressive and destructive political behavior of some states like Germany and France have negatively contributed in a credibility building for our common currency that has almost become a private Franco-German property.

As an Italian national looking to satisfy our own national interest, I strongly oppose to such a destructive politics promoted by France and Germany that will almost certainly lead towards a further weakening of Euro and therefore will take us towards much bigger problems for European economy.

Or Euro becomes a truly common currency of every participating country or it will almost certainly parish prematurely...

In this case no one will be safe.

U.S.A. v/s occupy protesters?

Well, last time I cheked the United States of America was a most (or almost) democratic country in the world and I wonder what happened with that...

For some strange reason, the US government is limiting the rights of these peaceful and justly manifestations from keep running. The demands of protesters are absolutely coherent with the reigning reality and the form of such a protest is also one of the most peaceful models they could've chosen.

So instead of supporting these people the government officials and local police force chiefs are trying to make them appear wrong in the eyes of public opinion.

The truth is that in the US, everybody should have an unlimited right to protest whenever and wherever they desire and if the number of protesters is high enough to "occupy" and even block public spaces, they should have the right to do so...
So in my professional opinion these people should be permitted to protest without an outer intervention.

All these lame excuses regarding health related issues at protest places and therefore the "urgent necessity" to cancel it seem to be just excuses. An aggressive attitude of police force and city councils are very strange as well.
I fail to understand though, why the US government is so "frightened" with the occupy movement. after all, they are combating the corrupt and destructive lobbies that caused huge problems not only in America but even in my own country (Italy) and in entire European continent.

Wall street's filthy speculations and corrupted system undermined the legitimacy of a free market phenomenon.
Free market and capitalism are perfect formula for a fair and balanced economic system that insures fair play between parties, but it's valid only when certain rules and regulations that regulate free market are followed and respected.
Otherwise an entire system goes in collapse infecting other global markets as well.

In italia ci sono delle persone come me, che pur essendo i seguaci dell'ideologia conservator-liberale, non sanno dove votare. PDL? Mai più!

Berlusconi ha massacrato un immagine di un italiano medio. Le sue abitudini private poco decenti e per nulla rispettosi dei valori di centro-destra hanno voluto far credere che tutto ciò fosse un "vizio" comune tra gli italiani. E ci sono stati degli ignoranti che appoggiarono questo assurdo tesi.

La vera dramma è che le persone di valori di centro destra non sanno più dove votare.

PDL è un partito defunto senza il futuro. Speriamo che sorga qualcosa di credibile sui suoi ceneri, altrimenti saremo costretti a disertare.

Italia e un nuovo inizio

Seguendo gli avvenimenti recenti della politica italiana, si scopre un quadro triste e preoccupante.
Malgrado il fatto che la nostra economia si trovi di fronte alle difficoltà potenzialmente micidiali per l'Italia, all'interno del PDL, i così detti politici, continuano con il solito repertorio. Stanno ancora cercando di impedire la transizione pacifica e di accettare il loro fallimento. La lotta per gli interessi personali e i tentativi di mantenere gli incarichi prestigiosi all'interno del governo quasi dimissionario è diventato uno spettacolo triste e rivoltante.
Mi chiedo come siamo arrivati a questo punto?
I politici rispettosi delle leggi e con altissimo senso di patriottismo stanno diventando sempre meno e tutto ciò è molto preoccupante.
spero che i nostri connazionali traggano le giuste conclusioni da tutto ciò...

L'Italia e la sua politica estera.

Come vediamo, la situazione in Italia si complica ulteriormente e ci mette di fronte a un pericolo concreto, capace di spezzare una volta per tutte la nostra capacità economica e di conseguenza ridurre la nostra influenza all'estero.

Visto che faccio un'analista politico e mi specializzo in politica estera, analizzeró la situazione da questo punto di vista, lasciando le riflessioni relative la politica puramente interna agli adatti ai lavori.

La rispettabilità dell'Italia è un concetto estremamente importante per il nostro paese perché ci garantisce la possibilità di operare in massima autonomia senza subire le influenze negative delle altre super potenze mondiali.
Purtroppo, durante gli ultimi cinque anni si è fatto di tutto per danneggiare questo equilibrio compiendo le scelte sbagliate. A parte il fatto che il nostro presidente del consiglio non è riuscito a gestire bene l'economia italiana, ha anche contribuito a diminuire drasticamente la posizione dell'Italia all'estero.

Il mancato senso dello stato, a mio avviso, gli ha impedito di analizzare bene quali fossero gli interessi nazionali del paese e quali fossero dei limiti oltre i quali non si poteva andare.
La verità è che il nostro paese non ha perseguito la politica estera basata sui valori ed ideali. Ha invece preferito di seguire delle alleanze forzate basate sulle amicizie "personali" del premier e sugli interessi unicamente economici.

Oggigiorno ci troviamo alleati dei regimi molto discutibili come quelli della Russia, della Bielorussia, di Kazakistan ecc, i quali, non solo non condividono con noi i nostri valori ma addirittura percepiscono la nostra cultura occidentale e democratica come un nemico da contrastare a tutti i costi. Le alleanze del genere che si basano solamente sugli interessi privati ed amicizie personali non durano nel tempo e solitamente si rivelano sempre controproducenti.

Tali amicizie, ci hanno sempre messi in difficoltà nei momenti cruciali in cui servivano delle prese di posizioni importanti per allinearsi con i nostri alleati. L'esempio più importante è sicuramente la crisi del agosto 2008, durante l'invasione Russa della Georgia, in cui, il nostro paese non ha saputo agire in linea con i nostri alleati storici come gli Usa, La Gran Bretagna e la Francia. Anche la questione libica ci ha causato tantissimi problemi.
Mentre in Italia non tutti avevano compreso la gravità della situazione, all'estero, la politica personale del premier ha destato tante perplessità.

Quindi la domanda è, perché non possiamo avere il leadership con il senso dello stato? L'Italia non è sicuramente un'azienda privata di qualcuno ma è un grande paese che merita la classe dirigente compatibile con il nostro potenziale.

L'Italia è ancora la settima super potenza mondiale che non può permettersi le falle nella gestione della politica estera. Deve servire da promotore della nostra cultura e nostri valori che automaticamente escludono lo spazio per dei giochini personali.

Le nostre alleanze estere devono basarsi esclusivamente sui valori. Le alleanze che si basano sui valori condivisi tra i popoli, durano nel tempo.

WTO & Georgia v/s Russia - The Truth

Russian and Georgian delegations have just concluded talks regarding Moscow's accession to the World Trade Organization that Kremlin has been trying to accomplish since early '90.

An agreement is achieved and will only guarantee a very modest presence of international monitors on two different Russo-Georgian border points that are currently occupied by Kremlin itself and where Georgia's legal authoritis have no access.

And last but not least, we still have to see this agreement being verifiably implemented, considering that Russian regime is famous by not honoring it's international obligations.
Personally I doubt Russia will allow any type of monitoring mission in occupied Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
I believe it tries to achieve it's goal and than to produce a political stalemate for an agreement implementation. It would not be unprecedented at all for Kremlin...

Actually Russia-WTO saga is a very complicated phenomenon...
Once Russian Federation had terminated the necessary negotiation processes with every WTO member state they had problems with, in order to define and resolve issues with them, it was left one on one with Georgia...

Tbilisi was a major obstacle for Kremlin regime, and in order to avoid it's veto (as a full WTO member) and guarantee it's accession it had to compromise at least on some very minor issues.

After Russo-Georgia war and Russia's consequent illegal occupation of Georgia's two northern provinces, demands from Georgian government shoul've been strong and decisive, but they were not...

WTO was an only serious and influential leverage in Tbilisi's hands in order to try to restore legality and force Putin's regime to de-occupy it's seized territoris and therefore to meet necessary requirments for WTO membership.

Even though, there were no guarantees Russia would have accepted these demands, it should have been a minimum requirement to satisfy any way. Tbilisi should've kept it's political position still even it would've almost certainly lead towards Moscow not being able to join the organization.

We have to highlight the fact that number one requirment for WTO member states is to have peaceful and transparent borders with each other and Russia is in a direct violation of this law.

If we consider EU's, American and UN position on Russo-Georgian conflict that directly recognizes an extremely illegal position of Kremlin and defines it as an invader of sovereign foreign territory, we see the importance fur such a position.

I think Saakashvili was frightened by recent European and US positions that desired to see Russia becoming a WTO member soon.
I do not think Georgian authorities had to necessarily consider our (European) position that wanted to see Moscow in.
I believe the only thing Tbilisi has to consider from our suggestions is related to it's democratization process and realization of necessary reforms in order to finally transform Georgia into an "acceptable" democratic state. All other US and EU suggestions towards Georgian current government are purely formal and do not risk any type of repercussions against it.

It was a paramount national interest of Georgia to try restoring it's territorial integrity as soon as possible and they lost this chance.
As a political analyst I'm aware that this type of occupation will not last long and as soon as Russia will eventually become a democratic state it will have to retreat, but in the meanwhile, there are hundreds of thousands of people ousted from their homes unable to return and they do not have much time.

La promessa delle dimissioni non convince più i mercati che ci puniscono con ulteriori rialzi per gli interessi che paghiamo. Siamo vicini al 7% - che è una cifra esorbitante!

La sfiducia nei confronti di Berlusconi è tale, da non considerare più le sue promesse. Mercati non gli concedono più neanche il minimo "credito" e sembra che lui sia considerato politicamente "deceduto" in Europa, negli Usa e in Canada. Poveri noi...

A questo punto non rimangono che le dimissioni immediate e un'annuncio per le elezioni anticipate prima possibile. Magari anche per dicembre/gennaio.

Nonostante tutto, non possiamo neanche regalare le redini del governo alla sinistra che non è stata neanche votata per stare al governo. Questa opzione deve essere assolutamente off limits!

Berlusconi killing Italy's democracy!

Berlusconi has already passed a crucial point of "no return" and can not be considered a democratic ruler any more...
His recent and somewhat morbid attachment to his "chair" and an extremely stubborn attitude towards his necessary resignation, resembles a classic behavior of some Eastern European dictators like Lukashenko or Putin... The only difference is that we are not in Russia or Belarus but in democratic Italy!

Berlusconi refuses to accept his zero authority status abroad and thinks he is an only viable option for our country.
Recently he made some very serious and unforgiving mistakes, especially for the people like me, who have a profound faith in center-right wing ideology and liberal-conservative values!

Unfortunately, He considers our country, called Italy, as his own personal property. But it's not all... During these last two days, he has been telling that he will not step down as it can hurt his personal businesses and therefore he is not prepared to inflict himself such a damage?
Yes, I know, its terribly wrong, but it seems that no one within his own political party rised an eyebrow. That's because there is no one decent left there anymore? perhaps...

But the saga continued even yesterday and when a pressure against him mounted once again asking him to resign, he went at home for a family meeting in order to probe the moods of his children and then take a decision. Eventually, his dear sons and daughters told him not to resign as it would damage their personal lucrative affairs and Berlusconi rispected their decision.
Basically he runs Italy as a personal enterprise and ignores completely the will of Italian people.
Plus, his filthy personal affairs, prostitution related incidents and legal problems has completely obliterated his already low level image abroad and has made a clown of him.

I can not imagine how this man came to power? It seems he managed to depict himself as a decent old man... Since his election as a prime minister, he runs country in order to do solely his personal businesses and to facilitate his personal cash-flow.

Italy is in a huge political and economical crisis and Berlusconi instead of being worried for our country and step aside, he keeps discussing his resignation issues at home in order to understand how to protect his own filthy affairs.

This is something shoking and unfortunately, many of my fellow citizens tend not to understand the gravity of this dramatic situation.

I'm sure Berlusconi has entered my country's history as a "killer" of Italy's democracy but stunningly, as of today, he is still power!

Ogni tanto, la mia profonda conoscenza della Russia come il paese e come il sistema politico-sociale in generale, si rivela estremamente vantaggiosa.
Recentemente uno dei miei colleghi russi mi disse di essere a conoscenza di alcuni dettagli che riguardano dei viaggi ufficiali del nostro presidente del consiglio in Russia...

Come analista politico, mi sono interessato di conoscere i reali motivi della nostra (intesa come - Italia) collaborazione con il paese che è governato da un regime molto imprevedibile e in qualche modo anche pericoloso per l'occidente...
Ho sempre faticato a capire come si potesse intrattenere delle relazioni così artificialmente forzate con un paese che non condivide i nostri valori in cui noi occidentali crediamo (dovremmo credere...) saldamente.

Detto ciò, cercherò di recuperare dei materiali e degli accordi che raccontino il vero motivo dei viaggi di Berlusconi in Russia e analizzerò l'intero processo da una prospettiva estremamente legittima che si chiama - "interessi nazionali dell'Italia.

Georgia's political deterioration - final analysis

The speedy deterioration of Georgian internal political arena is pushing the country backwards in time towards the period when political freedom in Georgia was a non-existent phenomenon.

As we all know, country has a serious military and political confrontation with an extremely aggressive and hostile Russian Federation, which invaded and occupied two Georgian provinces in 2008, in order to prevent Tbilisi's already very slim chances towards Nato integration process.

Before the invasion, Georgia appeared to be a really successful reformer which tried to start a genuine democratic transformation process and to conduct an internal social revolution in order to be one day eligible for a Nato and Eu membership.

Perhaps, we Europeans and our American partners have overestimated country's real achievements and Georgian government's real intentions? Because as of today, Georgia appears to be going backwards in it's already extremely low dose of democracy and autocratic manners of some government officials in Tbilisi troubles a lot of European political analysts.

Georgian president's negative attitude towards his political adversaries is an other painful example. Every time someone new appears on internal political arena, saakashvili and his strategy group tries to discredit him/her by invoking an ever present Russian threat.

Even though an aggressive and angry Kremlin is a serious problem for Georgian internal affairs, I doubt directly accusing everyone of being somehow implicated with Russian intelligence services is a wise choice...

Though recently there have been a couple of opposition leaders in Tbilisi that were directly maneuvered by Moscow, this sort of "spy-politician" story is becoming an everyday weapon that government officials use against every single political opposition and political dissent against Saakashvili regime...

Me and my colleagues knew the post-invasion era would have been a serious test for Georgian newborn democratic transformation process and country's government is failing it...

Perhaps the real motivation of Putin was just to pressure Georian government in order to make it deviate from a democracy track and by doing so to leave Saakashvili without western support? we will never know...

The facts are very worrying and Saakashvili and his government's almost totalitarian control of country's entire system is killing any future prospect for a real democracy building.
As we all know, here in Europe there are certain points that country's president can not cross. It seems that Georgian government not only has an extremely arbitrary approach towards numerous social nuances that should be left to the people to judge, but it also tries to control an entire mass media system that very much resembles current Russian scenario.

I believe Georgia has still a small opportunity to correct it's path and focus itself on a real democracy building. Otherwise Tbilisi will be left alone by the West and will become extremely vulnerable.

Le voci da dietro le quinte sembrano confermare l'ipotesi che Silvio Berlusconi finalmente darà le sue dimissioni in giornata. Nel parlamento circolano le voci quasi sicure dicendo che in serata arriverà il tanto atteso annuncio.

A parte delle indiscrezioni al riguardo, le premesse di Gianni Letta sembrano comunque confermare questa ipotesi. Letta ha appena tentato di rassicurare l'Europa dicendo che anche se Berlusconi dà le dimissioni, il futuro governo del paese manterrà le promesse date a Bruxelles.

Quindi oggi dovrebbe arrivare una svolta importante per il nostro paese. Direi che L'Italia ne ha bisogno di ricominciare da capo...

Come sostengo da un po' di tempo, Silvio Berlusconi è un progetto vecchio che ha fallito miseramente.
Vogliamo l'aria nuova nel centro-destra. Faccio appello ai miei amici di Pdl di riflettere seriamente...

Dobbiamo far dimettere il sig. Berlusconi a tutti i costi ma dobbiamo farlo in modo intelligente onde evitare che la sinistra approfitti di tutto ciò. La soluzione sarà da ricercare nelle procedure parlamentari. Bisogna togliere la fiducia al presidente del consiglio in quanto lui ha fallito in ogni suo intento che riguardava il nostro paese.
È ora di voltare la pagina.

Berlusconi v/s opposizione

Da una persona che crede profondamente nell'ideologia conservator-liberale, non riesco a guardare e rimanere indifferente di fronte a tale "distruzione nazionale" causata quasi esclusivamente da una sola persona...

Il fatto che Berlusconi sia finito e che se ne debba andare fuori dalla politica del nostro paese non può più essere dibattuto.

Lui è "un progetto fallito" che portò l'italia fuori dalle grande alleanze occidentali e la fece diventare uno "stato azienda" in cerca di profitti ai fini di lucro con la politica estera molto mediocre.

È sempre lui che ha portato il nostro paese verso le alleanze con le peggiori dittature del mondo e approfittando della relativa "ignoranza" degli italiani in materia delle relazioni internazionali è riuscito a stringere le amicizie personali con i paesi come l'ex Libia di Gheddafi, la Bielorussia, la Russia, il Kazakistan ecc...

Inoltre non è mai riuscito a modernizzare le radici del nostro paese e la cosa più importante; -ha fallito di salvare la nostra economia ormai stagnante...

Detto ciò, questo non vuol dire che Il sig. Bersani e co. siano in grado di fare di meglio ed essere professionisti delle politiche globali... Anche in questo caso si tratta pur sempre di un vecchio progetto e di vecchi politici che sono presenti sulla scena politica del paese da prima che Berlusconi si mettesse a disfare il nostro amato paese.

A noi servono dei politici giovani, che non siano moralmente implicati con nessuno dei due fazioni e che ci credano sul serio nell'Italia e nei valori occidentali in generale...

È forse chiedere troppo???

Israel v/s Iran - a war option...

As Israeli president, Simon Peres has said yesterday, Jewish state is taking under serious consideration attacking Iran in order to prevent Tehran acquiring it's first nuclear weapon.

Actually, as an European, and as an Italian, I do consider Iran's morbid desire to construct a nuclear bomd to be extremely hazardous for entire western world but we have to deal with this problem only via diplomatic channels.

We can not strike preemptive attacks against all our potential enemies, otherwise it would cause us a third world war and destroy world's entire international relations system. There are many potential threats out there for us, democracy loving westerners... It's not only Iran building an atomic bomd but others who have already built it...

I also think that there are many other extremely dangerous states out there that already have atomic weapons in their military arsenal. Examples are: Russia, Pakistan, China, even North Korea etc...

Many of these countries are our old ideological and political enemies since the end of the Second World War and in case of a real military conflicts, they would pose a great threat to an entire European Union and Nato...

Having said all these, I think Israel has to seriously riconsider it's hazardous and faulty political strategy as it will be potentially endangering and destabilizing an entire Eurasian continent and automatically pulling lots of countries in this future military conflict.

My analysis is a reflection of an European and in my case, of an Italian point of view. I doubt it's in my country's national interests to be pulled in into a dangerous Israeli military adventure that will only cause an irreparable damage to an entire Middle Eastern region and probably Israel itself.
Preemptive strike against Iran will be a huge strategic mistake, and I seriously doubt it's in Israeli interests either. Israel will be easily reached and counter-attacked by Iranian forces in case of it's strike against Tehran.

I'm sure Jerusalem is planning to count on a strong US military support in order to cope with Iran, but I doubt Washington and especially Obama would risk a new preventive war against a relatively formidable emeny that is capable of inflicting a serious damage to our allies...

As I said before, it's better dealing with a rogue Iran using a diplomatic option and press as hard as we can in order to make it to comply to our requests.

Otherwise we will have to preventively strike against all serious threats like Russia, Pakistan North Korea etc... It's not realistic.

L'Italia che affonda...

Berlusconi e i suoi seguaci hanno portato in Italia un principio estremamente negativo. Hanno trattato il nostro paese come un'azienda privata piuttosto che come un sistema paese.

Non avendo le competenze adeguate nel campo delle scienze politiche, hanno puntato sulle relazioni internazionali che non seguivano i valori democratici ma si concentravano sugli aspetti puramente economici.
Guadagni facili con un bel po' di interessi personali hanno proiettato l'Italia dell'era Berlusconi verso le alleanze con le varie dittature come la Russia, la Libia di Gheddafi e la Bielorussia, ma non solo...
Purtroppo, questi nostri cosiddetti alleati non condividono con noi nessun valore condiviso e di conseguenza tali rapporti forzati e basati sulle amicizie personali e discutibili sono destinati a finire con il cambio del governo.

Le alleanze internazionali solide si devono basare solitamente e solamente suoi valori condivisi tra gli stati e popoli. I valori occidentali, democratici e liberali deve essere un precursore principale per gli interessi nazionali dell'Italia. Solo questo tipo di approccio può garantire le alleanze durature.

Questi nostri politici dilettanti, hanno rovinato quasi irrimediabilmente l'immagine dell'Italia all'estero e ci verrà tanto lavoro per invertire il processo.

Il paese deve essere governato dai politici capaci e non dagli uomini d'affari di cui la mancanza dei valori di stato può andare bene per le loro aziende ma non sarà mai compatibile con il sistema paese che deve garantire ben altro...

Georgia's Saakashvili following Putin's path?

All those indiscretions regarding Georgia's president Saakashvili, is slowly turning to be true...
More and more officials voices confirm his intentions to copy Vladimir Putin's past actions and try to remain as a prime minister once his last presidential term expires in 2013.

This Putin's largely criticized move has seriously bothered the European Union that became concerned over a virtual absence of a democracy in Russia.

I think in Georgia will happen the same scenario. It's entirely possibile, Saakashvili had been pushing recent constitutional changes in order to better adjust them to his future plans and objectives. Stronger prime minister would perfectly fit Saakashvili's future goals that aspire and crave for some more years of power.
But will it be legal and democratic? Well, it might be legal for Georgian constitution, but I doubt we in the west will regard it as a democratic move. And last but not least, the process is awfully similar to Putin's scenario in Russia that is and will always be regarded as an autocratic ruler.

I strongly doubt that nowadays there are any serious and professional opposition parties capable of offering a credible alternative to Georgian voters, But there are some single politicians which might well be much more valid and respected amogst georgians as their future leaders.
However numerous experts say that amost all of them are experiencing unjust pressure from president Saakashvili in order to "eliminate" them from competition.

My Georgian counterparts, who are local political analysts specialized in internal politics, are telling that supposedly, one recently appeared prominent Georgian-French businessman (Bidzina Ivanishvili), who publicly announced his desire to enter the politics has already become a targets of Saakashvili's loyalists trying to intimidate and discredit him. It might be related to this person's real validity as a politician that frightens and threatens Misha's future plans for a post of a future prime minister.

So what in the world is wrong with Georgia? While Georgia's initial progress and democratization was a visible and verifiable process and lasted from 2004 to 2008, after Russo-Georgian war country has once again gone backwards.

The quality of feedom and democracy in Georgia has diminished consistently and a fear for Russian political intervention in Georgia's internal affairs has made country's government somewhat paranoid and extremely authoritarian.

Plus, as soon as some serious political opponents appears in country's internal politics, somehow they starts to scare Saakashvili very much that often deals with them in a very "non-democratic" way.

And last we have to touch another painful argument that is called mass media. As of today, there is virtually no freedom in Georgia's Press and Media, that is very unfortunate.

Final analysis would be following: Until Georgia becomes a real democratic state, we can not perceive it as a suitable candidate for our unions (EU) and alliances (NATO), but we will continue to support Georgia's territorial integrity and demand Russian withdrawal from Georgia's two occupied provinces.

It's extremely embarrassing how the US is handling widespread "occupy" protests throughout entire country. Innocent protesters are being harassed and arrested almost everywhere starting from New York that is supposed to be a beacon of freedom.

i believe the current government has somehow lost it's image and gave the world (especially autocracies) a very bad example...

USA v/s UNESCO? Washington is wrong...

Today Washington is wrong and I'll explain why...

The truth is that I have always been against unilateral recognition of Palestine as an independent state, without Israelis participating in the process and I'm still on a same opinion...
As a political analyst, I think these two states are closely tied to a common destiny and share similar fate. They themselves have to find a compromise for a peaceful coexistence. This is something that one day will become reality and finally our Israeli allies and Palestinian friends will have durable and sustainable peace. No other political organization can resolve problems for them.

But we also know that Palestine is trying to push it's objective towards a unilateral recognition and full UN membership and trying to accomplish it via it's sympathizers in general assembly...

In the meanwhile, today Ramallah has got it's recognition from UNESCO and gained a seat into this organization as an independent state.

I believe it means almost nothing for Palestinian statehood as it still has to negotiate with Israel in order to gain a full recognition from international community. It means I do not really see any significant threat for Israel following today's Palestinian recognition by UNESCO.

But I do consider US official position to block it's participation and it's funding for UNESCO as an extremely negative attitude that has no excuse.

This is a very dark day in American diplomacy that used this petty threat against an international organization because it was not able to force it's political will on it. It's an insane and irrational political position that can not help to solve this issue and it might even further complicate relations between Israel and Palestinian Authority.

For us, Western Europeans, and especially Italians, UNESCO is a very important international organization that is closely connected to our culture, art and history and it deserves respect!

I really hope this ill-advised political plan coming from some US beaurocrat will be revised soon...

Our country and it's strong but almost stagnant economy, are barely able to remain afloat and avoid sinking.

Our incapacitated and unprofessional government officials and politicians are not able to solve Italy's political and economical problems.

Silvio Berlusconi and his lousy and filthy personal affairs together with his judicial problems are keeping an entire Italian government busy figuring out all possible solutions in order to "help" their old political leader to survive.

This is how things really are. Of course, government officials deny it strongly saying they are only working for our country, but it's a massage for internal use only. Everybody else who had at least an elementary knowledge of politics has got a real idea how things really are here in Rome.

Now the question is, can we change something here?
We need to wake up a common sense amid those politicians who ones believed and followed the ruling party and now find themselves disappointed and angry for how things are going.
We have to hail those young professionals who like me, truly believe in liberal-conservative ideology and realize that despite what they say, Berlusconi's party has nothing to do with it any more...
We need Italy respected abroad and we need Italian politicians to be absolutely respectful of values of decency in order to be credible especially at home.

Avendo appena commentato l'incidente diplomatico tra Berlusconi e "Sarko-Merkel mafia", sento l'urgenza di tornare sul tema Berlusconi e ribadire il mio assoluto scetticismo nei confronti della sua capacità politica e nei confronti della sua reale validità come un uomo di stato...

Ritengo che sia giunta l'ora di accettare la cruda realtà che riguarda il suo miserabile fallimento personale, sia come un'uomo politico che come uno capace di guidare l'economia del nostro grande paese. Il declino dell'Italia è davanti agli occhi di tutti e dobbiamo prenderne atto.

Io capisco che le divisioni tra le ideologie politiche di centro-sinistra e quello di centro-destra italiana, sono molto profonde per colpa della storia recente del nostro paese, ma credo che anche gli italiani che si ritengono di appartenere alle ideologie politiche tendenti più verso la centro-destra liberale (io in primis) debbano accettare la verità che non è più un punto di vista di qualche analista politico come me, ma rappresenta la triste verità.

Da analista politico, io non guardo solo gli aspetti della politica interna del governo ma analizzo anche le strategie della politica estera, in quanto quest'ultimo è un punto estremamente importante per il nostro paese che deve sempre cercare di rimanere uno stato influente e potente, onde evitare di subire le influenze imposte dagli altri membri più potenti della comunità internazionale.

Con le amicizie personali del premier Berlusconi che guardano verso i peggiori dittatori sparsi per il globo, danneggiano e hanno già danneggiato la nostra credibilità internazionale... Purtroppo per noi, la nostra società è molto poco competente nelle questioni internazionali e spesso perde il contatto con la realtà per poter analizzare bene le vere dinamiche del operato italiano sullo scacchiere internazionale.

Per quanto riguarda la nostra credibilità internazionale reale, io dico che siamo messi peggio di quanto si pensi in realtà.

È ora di cambiare la pagina e anche più presto possibile.

Georgia's democracy going backwards?

Since 2008 Russian invasion in Georgia and a subsequent occupation of its to secessionist provinces, country democratic reforms started to vanish and taking a shape of an autocracy...

It's been difficult to analyze the real reasons for such a bizarre tendency, but many of my colleagues specialized in Caucusus politics think the huge political pressure coming from Russian regime and Saakashvili's personal unwillingness to resign, are pushing him towards an authoritarian rule. For him, it seems the only viable option in order to stay in power and he is constructing very doubtful plans in order to stay in absolute power for a very long time even once his presidential mandate comes finally to the end in 2013...

Before 2008 Russian military aggression against Georgia and It's people, Saakashvili was largely perceived as an "enough democratic" figure capable of bringing a real change in country's tormented present, but after an invasion he became an other person.
Even though Georgia had no fault in 2008 war he (Saakashvili) did not see or receive much of a support from the rest of the world. The reason was clear... It's Russia we are talking about here and neither we Europeans nor Americans wanted to "expose" themselves too much and we were very wrong having done so...

I am sure that's a main reason for Saakashvili's change of plans. He even refused to resign once Georgia got occupied by Russia's brutal force.
He failed to send a credible distress call in Europe and the US in order to prevent a realization of kosovo scenario in Georgia, probably because of his lack of credibility worldwide. The above stated story alone would've and should've been enough reason for his resignation.

As of today, he is not only going to finish his second and final term, but he is going to repeat long criticized "Putin move" that will simply leave him in power forever.

All these, together with a pitiful situation in country's entirely state-controlled mass-media, completely state dependent judiciary with no independence and a numerous lobbies and economical interests within the government struggling for control of country's various economic and social spheres are putting Georgia in an extremely difficult situation.

I can hardly see any possibilities for Tbilisi to be able accomplishing it's goals and objectives regarding Euro-Atlantic integration.

Georgian citizens need to think seriously about their future and they must make brave choices right away on order to maintain any chances for a prosperous future. Otherwise, the country will once again become a failed state as it used to be in early and late '90...

Georgia & it's handicapped democracy

Since a new figure has emerged in Georgian opposition club, Saakashvili has been busy to counteract his rivals and insure himself a "bright future".

Recently, we have discussed a new phenomenon regarding Georgia's internal politics and debated a newly appeared figure trying to participate in georgai's next parliamentary elections.
His name is Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili and he seems to be a prominent businessman living in France.
His appearance caused a huge internal interest in Georgia and listening to his announcements and future political plans, people started to perceive him as a serious option for country's nearest future.
But as Saakashvili's allies say, apparently he is a naturalized French citizen and according to an absurd Georgian regulation, whoever becomes a foreign citizen automatically losses his or her Georgia citizenship. But there is another absurd regulation that allow coutry's president to waive this condition based only on his personal and arbitrary judgement and to maintain ones Georgian citizenship intact. I doubt there is anything democratic in this law but as we can see it's a perfect leverage in president's hands to get rid of his opponents who are naturalized foreign citizens with solid chances to be elected in country's parliament.

I've been following very attentively recent developments and many political analysts in Tbilisi started to consider the possibility that Saakashvili himself investigated Mr. Ivanishvili's citizenship status and once he found out he was a naturalized French swiftly deprived him Georgia citizenship in accordance to above stated presidential regulation...

I do not really think this kind of deteriorated democracy will bring any good to Georgia's future at all.

While we Europeans, will certainly continue our unconditional support for Georgia's independence and territorial integrity and press Russia to de-occupy two Georgian provinces seized by Kremlin after 2008 invasion, we can not support Georgia's Nato and EU integration process with it's current level of democracy that is well bellow an acceptable point for normal standards.
While a street level corruption has been successfully eliminated throughout entire country, impartial records indicate that there still is a high level corruption present almost everywhere in Georgia and internal lobbies and interests still rule country's internal political system.
And last but not least, a lack of a free mass-media in Georgia is a huge handicap for it's ambitions focusing on Euro-Atlantic integration.

Russia v/s Georgia - Tbilisi has lost even though it was right

We have analyzed the Russo-Georgian war and it's devastating results for Georgia many times, but we have never said directly that even though Georgia was an innocent victim of a Russian autocracy and it's diabolical agenda, it has lost it's legitimate battle any way...

All started in early 2008. Russia was upset with us, Nato alliance members, because of our sudden and unilateral recognition of Kosovo's independence from Serbia in 2008, that Russia had always tried to prevent from happening.
By doing so, we Europeans have unconsciously condemned Georgia for a similar fate and were not even able to help it.

The reason for a political revenge from Russia was very clear and Kremlin managed not only to repeat a Kosovo scenario in Georgia and therefore to "punish" the US and some EU states, but by occupying Georgian separatist regions it managed to block Tbilisi's future accession to Nato.
Basically we gave Moscow regime a "viable option" to achieve their goal and objective. In may 2008 Mr. Putin has openly promised to stage the Kosovo scenario in Georgia in order to made us pay for our "aggressive conduct" against Belgrade and to block Georgia's path towards Nato integration by simply undermining it's territorial integrity.

They (Kremlin regime) used those Georgian secessionist regions to accomplish their objective and manufactured a "nice" cover story for an internal use only, where Russia was going to help those "poor breakaway regions" from Georgian aggression that never actually happened. Mr. Putin look advantage of it's people's relative ignorance of international issues and managed to convince them easily.
The problem is that this propaganda story worked even on numerous ignorant western politicians that not knowing anything about a real situation in Georgia, believed in Putin's cover story. For instance, one of those men was my country's prime minister, Mr. Silvio Berlusconi...

Russian federation used lots of economical resources in order to push their staged scenario as a true story and partially succeeded. In fact, by doing so, Kremlin managed to limit European solidarity towards it's pray, Georgia.

Today the situation is lot more complicated then ever before. While Putin tries to maintain current status quo in Russian occupied territoris, Eu seems to loose it's determination to make Russia to withdraw it's military from Abkazian province and Tskhinvali region of Georgia.

Georgia might seem for us like a very remote European region with a relatively negligible importance for us as an European Union states and it's probably true, but what's important here is a principle for freedom and justice.

We can not allow an autocratic state to act like it did in Georgia and get away with it without any serious political consequences.
If we do allow Kremlin to get away with it, we would be legitimizing an invasion and violence in Europe as a legal and legitimate mean to solve differences.

We need to think about it very seriously and I'm addressing my message to those European country's who are still sensitive to our western values and ideals and still think justice in European continent must always prevail no matter what.

Problems of Italian capital are serious

Rome is beautiful and gracious...
I've grown up in this city and I'd like to think I know it very well.

Recently, I'm starting to consider Italian capital as a hostile and unfriendly environment, especially for people like me, with a family and children.

Rome is not well coordinated, it lacks a public transportation system, lacks parking places for automobiles and what's more important, Rome lacks civilized behavior from it's residents.

Uncivilized driving, unwillingness to respect waiting lines and always trying to find shortcuts in order to satisfy ones selfish need at someone else's expenses has become a normal phenomenon in this city and it's burning my heart...

You'll see cars parked almost everywhere in Rome, including road crossings, highways, bus stops, underground entrances and even in front of our own garage doors.

People act indifferent and pretend not to understand the gravity of their behavior.

It has become tricky to find someone opposing all this and even if you do oppose, people will certainly call you mad. Majority of my fellow citizens are simply too similar to understand the gravity Rome's current state.

I hope those part of Romans realize they are living in a total mass and are becoming indifferent for their own fate. I'm becoming very nervous for my children growing here and I think everyone should be...

I have never thought I would seriously consider moving to Italy's north one day, but I have started to think about it (Turin or Milan).

Berlusconi's secrets & violence in Rome

Every time there is a manifestation against Berlusconi's government it ends up criminalize by the same government officials as an attempt of coup d'etat against him and so on and so on. It's nothing new here...

In fact, during every single marche against Silvio, there always come violent groups of so called "black blocs" that mix themselves amongst protesters and start destroying and burning everything on their way in order to de-legitimize an entire protest gathering and therefore to dismiss requests of participants for Berlusconi's resignation.

I think there might be a hand of Berlusconi in it that tries to battle his opposition by all means possible.
I believe it's an option that has to be taken in serious consideration and debated by all opposition groups.

The signature of such a scenario is very similar to Russian opposition rallies when every single gathering finishes with a similar ending.

I hope people can draw their own conclusions seriously...

Despite a very precarious position Berlusconi is in, he just crossed a final decency line and tried to forcibly stay in power ignoring a negative mood of an entire country.

It's becoming obvious now how Berlusconi started to use "soft dictatorship" tactics suggested by his friend Putin.

I understand that planty of my fellow citizens aren't fully aware of tactics Berlusconi uses in order to stay in power as long as he can, but I can guarantee that such a violent political forcing had never been spotted before in our contry's entire republican history.

Today I have to say it clear, that our beloved country's democracy is at a serious risk.
It's been couple of years since Italy stopped being considered a serious global player worldwide, despite it's real and huge economic and military capabilities... It's all because of it's current government's foolish and ignorant foreign policy and unprecedented internal scandals. Alliances with dictatorships and personal friendships with dictators cost us our image and credibility as a world's leading democracy.

As a liberal conservative, I thought Berlusconi's party itself would've forced him to resign and choose a decent and experienced man in his place, but I was wrong overestimating their true nature.

The truth about USA v/s Iran

Recent political and spying scandals between the US, Saudi Arabia and Islamic republic of Iran has cought our attention.

Accusations against Tehran are very serious and worrying but we, Europeans, have to remain clear minded and try to analyze this situation from every possible angle.

The US is threatening a harsh response against Iran and says they will not rule out a "war" option as well...
Washington is very upset as the attempted murder of a Saudi diplomat was taking place on American soil, but similar spy scandals are extremely common (unfortunately) worldwide and I do not think we have to "go to war" with Iran for that.

In fact, I think Obama must be very strong in condemning this act, but he has to avoid giving an ambiguous massage towards Saudi Arabian dictatorships as well, that could take US actions as a political endorsement for their bloody regime.

I'll try to be even clearer...
The scandal accrued between Iran and Saudi Arabia because of their historical rivalry and unsettled differences in the Middle East.
These violent intentions and assassination plots are extremely negative phenomenon, but It's nothing we westerners do not do ourselves when pursuing vital issues for our national interests.
Though our political goals and objectives are based on right ethical issues and are connected to our political ideals of freedom and democracy, instruments and methods our secret services use when operating are not very dissimilar with those of Iran or Russia.
We have to face reality and stop thinking in double standards.

Future US ambassador to Russia against Putin

Today, a very respected US government official and future ambassador to Russian Federation, Michael McFaul harshly criticized Russian government because of it's absolute unwillingness to fulfill Moscow's international obligations (cease fire agreement signed with Georgia in fall 2008) and recall It's occupational forces from occupied regions of Georgia.

As we all know very well after a 2008 Russian invasion to Georgia, Kremlin failed to comply with EU and France brokered cease fire agreement and to de-occupy the regions of Abkhazia and so called South Ossetia.

Moscow tried to make those regions recognized as independent states worldwide and doing so to block Tbilisis' accession to the NATO... They also wanted to punish the West because of Kosovo recognition, but they failed to achieve their goals. The only countries which stood by Kremlin's decision were two Latin America dictatorships like Venezuela and Nicaragua.

Mr. McFaul promised he will work hard during his term in order to make Moscow respect it's international obligations and help Georgia political to restore it's territorial integrity.

Let's see what happens next...

Violazioni di trattato internazionale

Oggi vorrei ricordare il recente avvenimento tra gli USA e Messico che tutt'oggi rimane irrisolto e motivo di continui attriti tra gli USA e il resto del mondo.

I problemi diplomatici tra il Messico e gli Stati Uniti continuavano a complicarsi quiche muse da. La recente esecuzione di un cittadino messicano da parte dell'Alta Corte dello stato del Texas ha fatto tornare a galla alcune questioni serie riguardanti gli Stati Uniti ed suoi impegni internazionali. Il recente ed ennesimo caso si riferisce al sig. Humberto Leal che è stato giustiziato la scorsa settimana per l’omicidio di Adria Sauceda, una ragazza sedicenne assassinata nel 1994. L'omicidio avvenne nella città di San Antonio in Texas, dopo una festa cittadina, il sig. Leal diede un passaggio alla ragazza la quale fu trovata morta poche ore dopo. Il condannato a morte si è sempre dichiarato innocente ma la giustizia Texana lo ritenne ugualmente colpevole e lo condannò alla pena capitale.

Fin qui tutto regolare per la giustizia statunitense, se non fosse per una questione estremamente delicata e seria che riguarderebbe la frequente violazione del trattato internazionale da parte degli Usa. In particolare si tratta della violazione dei diritti consolari dei cittadini stranieri arrestati in America. Queste sono accuse serie che provengono non solo dagli avvocati di sig. Leal e dal governo Messicano, ma anche da moltissimi politici americani che riconoscendo tali violazioni in merito, chiesero più volte la sospensione temporanea della pena per tutti gli stranieri condannati a morte ai quali fu deliberatamente negato il diritto di assistenza consolare. Addirittura, fu Obama stesso a chiedere una sospensione di sei mesi, per poter portare il caso davanti al congresso e cercare di ottenere la possibilità di rivedere tutti i casi in questione.

Come di consueto, lo stato del Texas non permise neanche al presidente Barack Obama di influenzare il verdetto finale e porto avanti l'esecuzione del sig. Leal senza aspettare alcuna decisione politica.

Fu fatto lo stesso alla richiesta di George W. Bush nel 2005, il quale aveva promesso alla corte della giustizia internazionale di far rivedere tutti i casi dei condannati a morte, ai quali sarebbero stati negati i diritti consolari in America. Anche allora, la corte suprema statunitense non prese in considerazione gli obblighi internazionali del paese e non permise nessuna variazione o verifica dei casi in questione. Ovviamente, non può sapere nessuno se l'assistenza consolare avrebbe fatto qualche differenza a favore degli imputati giustiziati e non avremo più modo di saperlo, ma fatto sta che si tratta pur sempre di un obbligo internazionale che deve essere concesso a tutti i soggetti arrestati. Soprattutto perché gli Usa esigono il rispetto totale di tale obbligo internazionale da parte di tutti i paesi firmatari e cercano di far valere al massimo i benefici del suddetto accordo per i propri cittadini in situazioni simili all’estero.

Questi sono dei precedenti estremamente spiacevoli per gli Usa che potrebbero portare ripercussioni negative per i propri cittadini all'estero in cerca di assistenza legale/consolare.

Nel frattempo, mentre i parenti messicani di sig. Leal hanno criticato il sistema giudiziario americano e hanno addirittura bruciato la bandierina americana, il ministero degli affari esteri messicano ha appena trasmesso una nota di protesta ufficiale al dipartimento di stato americano dove promette di andare in fondo alla questione e di far valere le proprie ragioni.

Considerando il fatto che gli Stati Uniti sono uno degli ultimi paesi occidentali al mondo che ancora oggi applicano la "capital panishment" come pena capitale per determinati reati gravi, sarebbe preferibile che le procedure processuali fossero rispettate alla lettera, onde evitare ogni tipo di strumentalizzazione da parte dell'opinione pubblica mondiale. Suddetta affermazione acquisisce un ulteriore importanza quando si tratta di cittadini stranieri condannati a morte, ai quali potrebbero essere stati negati i diritti importantissimi come l'assistenza del proprio paese di cittadinanza.

Berlusconi taking lessons from Putin???

Recent unwillingness of Italian prime minister Berlusconi, to accept his huge political failure and resign, is very puzzling for all of us...
No western leader does what Berlusconi did during his last 5 years in office.

Since he became a prime minister, he failed to achieve any significant goal or objective for our country and did everything he could to do laws and regulations for his personal needs. His ignorant "friends" within the government allowed him to transform Italy in his personal enterprise and therefore, they also has become equally responsible for for Berlusconi's wrongdoings.

As of today, Berlusconi appears very defiant and refuses to recognise he is not respected anymore. He does not care about Italians and does not want to listen to our opinions about him.
In fact, his recent attitude resembles very much how eastern European dictators, like Putin and Lukashenko like to behave.

In my opinion, it's very likely his "friend" Putin advises him how to behave in order to maintain his position as soon as possible and hopefully to arrive to the end of current legislature that ends in 2013.
Hopefully for us, that's the only forcing Putin can help him to live through, because differently from Russian regime, our county is a real and accomplished democratic state and nobody can "kidnap" a prime ministers chair forever.

Together with his personal scandals and sex related unethical behavior, nobody really knows what Berlusconi does during his trips oversees, when visiting countries like Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan etc...

While every single Russia related visit of presidents of France, the US, prime ministers of UK, Spain and even Germany are totally transparent and clear, trips of Berlusconi to Moscow is always "clandestine" and secret.
These are also very negative aspects and tendencies contributing to Berlusconi's failed authority worldwide and I believe, Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini should know it as well as I do...

Ones considered a savior of Italy, Berlisconi is regarded now as a selfish and "not-value oriented" old politician who tries to maintain his position as soon as possible before it's all over.

I think ones we will have a new government, it should have to meticulously investigate any possible wrongdoings of current government officials during their foreign trips to the countries that are our long lasting ideological and political rivals.

There are lots of strange things going on around Berlusconi these last 5 years and people are demanding clarity ...

The U.S. needs to respect reciprocity with us Europeans

I've been talking with lots of European voyagers lately that used to travel to the U.S. frequently and we all agree on one thing; the U.S. DHS agency is a total nightmare for us Europeans who are bona fide travelers going to the US for vacation or for a short business trip.

The United States of America is a beautiful and gorgeous country to visit and American people, besides being our main allies, are very good hosts too... (Personal experience)

Unfortunately, we can not say the same about their procedures for foreigners when entering the country and have to clear passport control and customs.
It's not the same every time, and there are exceptions for everything of course, but basically, there is an unnecessary severity towards us, EUtravellers, and attitude of DHS agents is well under any decent standards one can even imagine.
Instead of welcoming you, it's like the US agents tend to be skeptical and are letting you in like you're on parole on something.

After you cleared passport control they will make you strip once again before allowing you out and will re-check every single luggage you're holding, even though you've been already cleared same procedures during your departure from EU airports (Rome, Munich, Paris...).

If you are carrying any electronic equipment with you you might find yourself in trouble... In fact their Patriot Act law allows U.S. customs to seize you equipment at their own discretion and request an electronic control for them that usually takes months.
In fact, you might never see your lap-top or super smartphone again.

For us, western Europeans, sometimes going to the US it's like a total anarchy, stress and fear for something unknown and incomprehensible.

When my colleagues and I tell all these to our American friends they remain shocked and even somewhat skeptical because they can't believe it.

In comparison, their trip to our old continent is like a trip to Eden. We Europeans usually allow Americans a benefit of doubt and consider them all as bona fide visitors welcoming them without any completion at all.

I'd like to ask our Italian and European authorities, why can't we demand respect for our citizens as well? Or why Do not we apply a reciprocity "behavior" towards US citizens when they arrive in Rome-Fiumicino or London-Heathrow? That would cause a general resonance and US citizens themselves would demand "respect" for us to their own authorities as well.

I know plenty of Italians and French going to Canada for vacation in order to avoid unnecessary problems and "humiliating experience" at the US port of Entry, but It's not right.... U.S. is worth visiting because It's beautiful and It's people are nice and extremely welcoming. They just need to render more humane their policy towards visiting Europeans.

Let's see what happens...

Georgia's internal problems and Saakashvili

Recently a new political figure has appeared in Georgian politics, promising a new era for country's foreign and internal affairs and intending to "launch" Georgia into a new future.

His name is Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili and some say, he's a most prominent and successful Georgian businessman ever.
His critical spirit has shook entire ruling party lately and contributed to rise tension between the government and regular opposition.

I was listening very attentively Mr. Ivanishvili's press releases lately and I have to say he has perfectly understood the very essence of country's internal problems and issues related to the lack of a real democracy in Georgia. I do not really know the personal background of Mr. Ivanishvili and I had never seen him in action but his considerations were all real and even obvious.

He had criticized the lack of mass media freedom in Georgia and It's something that nobody can deny. All media institutions are controlled by the government, maybe with the excuse of trying to control Russian intervention in country's internal politics, but It's no justification at all... The fact remains and worries every single European political analyst who had previously believed in Georgia's democracy and liberalism (like me...).

Mr.Bidzina Ivanishvili also touched the Georgian judicial system and he was right again. For now, Tbilisi has no independent judiciary yet and sadly, I can not even see anything going to that direction. Prosecutors and judges are tide with the government very closely and have no liberty to investigate or sue highest government officials in case of such need.

Mr. Ivanishvili had announced his intentions to participate in Georgian elections with his political party and enter the parliament just couple a days ago and today Georgian government has communicated to it's citizens that actually, Mr. Ivaniahvili had been deprived Georgian citizenship 5 years ago when he took a second citizenship of France.

Actually there is this kind of "insane" law in Georgia that cancels ones citizenship if an individual askes to become naturalized in a foreign country. But there is another insane regulation that allows president of Georgia, Saakashvili, to maintain one's citizenship based only on his arbitrary judgement.

So I do not see why that should not be the case for Ivanishvili as well... I do not even think it was necessary to publicly announce what they (government) did today.

We'll wait and see if this legal matter will preclude a new and fresh political figure entering Georgia's political arena..
It might depend on how threatening Ivanishvili will appear for Saakashvili's political plans.

Me and my colleagues here in Europe are a bit worried about recent US attitude towards those who protest and express their dissatisfaction against the government or state politicians.
Recent demonstrations in various american cities ended up with a very negative images.
Police is too aggressive and uneducated against their own citizens and nationals. Charging and arresting in such a violent manner is deplorable.

US government would have harshly criticized any other country who would dare treating their citizens like this and we Europeans must demand no less from American authorities as well.

The USA, together with major EU states, is a beacon of a democracy worldwide and can not allow it's police and law enforcement agencies to limit someone's freedom to demonstrate opinion and protest.

There is another issue concerning Washington...
We, western Europeans, have already noticed some "undemocratic" and violent behavior from various US law enforcement agencies since 2001 against our citizens traveling to the US...
DHS agents are not the nicest agents you can encounter out there and sometimes their behavior goes beyond reasonable.
I'm sure our every day American friends know nothing about it but it's something our EU politicians have to discuss with their American counterparts as soon as possible. Especially considering the fact that our EU border police agents (for example Italian police) are extremely polite.

I hope the situation will be normalized soon.

Why is Italy ignored by French-German alliance?

Italian government officials expressed their strong dissatisfaction with Sarkozy-Merkel secret meetings recently and appeared skeptical about unilateral actions taken by these two in order to pursue their personal goals and objectives.

Our foreign minister, Dr. Franco Frattini and other senior officials said that Italy is against such a weird Franco-German initiative that tries alone to define the fate of entire Europe without even consulting others...

Well how can we blame him? He is 100% right. Italy is simply too important and too powerful EU state to be ignored like it's Latvia, Sweden, Greece or Portugal (no offence intended)...
Italy is a founding member of this Union and It's as strong and as influential like UK and France (maybe even more...).
So why are we ignored like this? Here's an honest answer: because of Berlusconi and his faulted and shortsighted foreign policy.

While Merkel and Sarkozy were debating Europe's future, Italian prime minister was in Moscow celebrating dictator Putin's birthday.
While Mr. Sarkozy was delivering a support speech in Tbilisi, during his recent trip in Georgia 4 days ago, and criticizing Putin's aggressive politics against Georgia and still ongoing occupation of its regions, Mr. Berlusconi was giving an assurance to the same guy and so on and so on...

It means not only that Berlusconi has no idea on how to conduct international relations, but he is too compromised personally to be respected in western world. Therefore, our country's authority and power alone is not enough to be considered and to be taken seriously without a credible guidance by country's politicians.

That's one and only explanation for recent tendencies showed by Germany, UK and France that consists of ignoring our country as an influential global player...

Italy needs change and needs it now. We can not allow a selfish old-man to compromise our country's authority like that...

Berlusconi, his lousy politics and newspapers/3

I wonder how my fellow citizens can stand and watch this recent lousy theatre of Italian politics, especially the deplorable and insane behavior of Mr. Berlusconi and his party, that have caused so much shame and humiliation to our great nation and it's western values.

Italy, once considered and respected worldwide, as a defender of democratic values and a strong and influential global player, has become a pitiful phenomenon since Berlusconi started to loose contact with the reality.

Silvio Berlusconi has made our country an important ally of last European dictatorships like Putin's Russia and Lukashenko's Belarus, without even having considered opinions of his own voters clearly against it...

He made Italy a comedy show as he failed to be a decent old-man and to cure his deviate impulses (I mean his sexual advances towards very yourg, who easily might've been his granddaughters)...

There are numerous center-right oriented newspapers in Italy that are big critics of Putin's empire and various leftist ideologies, but they have never publicly criticized Berlusconi yet...

It's very strange and points that these papers are having and applying double standards in their work and consider "their" prime minister an untouchable individual.

I want them to remember that we, center-right oriented voters and sympathizers have to be first of all coherent with our values and ideas and never submit to some selfish politicians that have lost the capacity to realize the consequences for their foolish actions and behaviors .

I'm inviting you to speak the truth and demand respect for our political identity, otherwise you all loose legitimacy to be called newspapers.

Analyzing Georgia's political reality and tendencies/2

As I've mentioned before, many of my colleagues recently and some Italian military officials had asked me to analyze internal political situation in Georgia and I'm trying to satisfy their curiosity...

As we all know, Georgia has become a victim of a merciless Russian military intervention in 2008, aiming to stop Tbilisi's aspirations to join NATO and revenge a recognition of Kosovo by us, western countries, that made Kremlin and it's dictator very angry and extremely humiliated...

It's obvious that Georgia's president Saakashvili had no fault in this story and he as well, had become a victim of negative circumstances and diabolical plans of Russian dictator, but things are little more complicated any way...

What Saakashvili has failed to do is much more complex and important...
He has failed to use a high level diplomacy in order to save Georgia from such a violent military campaign.
He has failed to find a good strategy and avoid Russian intervention at any costs.
He also failed to assume his part of responsibilities and admit his part of a failure in this war that led to a military occupation of two Georgian provinces known as region of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali province.

Kremlin has a total responsibility in this conflict, but Georgian president has failed to adequately expose Putin's plans in front of an European Union and the US...
His (Saakashvili's) aggressive rhetoric alone was not able to avoid an invasion that was already planned by Putin in 2008 and relying only on Georgian army in order to repelle Russian invasion was foolish and unrealistic.
Unfortunately, Georgia will never have strong enough army in order to defeat Russian military and therefore Saakashvili had to focus on different strategy in order to save Georgia.

But there is more..
Latest tendencies of Mr. Saakashvili are causing serious preoccupations for Georgia's young democracy.
In Georgia, there are still no independent institutions capable of operating objectively and independently.
Country's police is entirely politicized and seen by Georgian citizens almost as a pro-government political party rather than a law enforcement institution.
Judiciary system in Georgia has not got it's independence yet and the rights of defence during the trial are almost negligible...
There is also another negative aspect of Saakashvili that seriously hurts country's democracy. It's his often arbitrary and radical ideas expressed via country's mass media that negatively influences internal political process...
There are also plenty of issues regarding Georgia's freedom of press that is still only partly free and maintaining a negative tendency.

All these are serious issues that Republic of Georgia has to deal with seriously and as soon as possible, otherwise, entire political system in Georgia will be in danger.
